In “Avengers: Doomsday”, an impressive ensemble is expected, marking it as the Marvel Studios film with the oldest collective cast, given that more than ten principal actors are above fifty years of age.
Uniting the teams of the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four, the upcoming movie titled Doomsday is poised to potentially break records as the largest superhero film ever made. The prospect of witnessing a clash between numerous heroes, along with Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom, has fans buzzing in excitement, as this film is rapidly gaining momentum among the most highly anticipated blockbusters of 2026.
Every Avengers: Doomsday Confirmed Cast Member Over 50 Years Old
Apart from the up-and-coming talents from Marvel Studios’ Infinity and Multiverse Saga, the movie Doomsday will showcase some of the most prominent actors from across Marvel’s cinematic history. These veterans, who have appeared in films dating back a quarter century, are now esteemed elder statesmen in the industry.
After the reveal of the initial 27 actors for Avengers: Doomsday, it’s been confirmed that the team will feature no less than 10 performers aged 50 or above.
Robert Downey Jr.
In “Avengers: Doomsday”, the starring role is taken by Robert Downey Jr., a well-known figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who will be depicting the movie’s antagonist, Doctor Victor Von Doom. Downey initially played Tony Stark in the MCU at the age of 43 (at the release of 2008’s “Iron Man”). On April 5th, he turned 60 and sported a fresh haircut to mark the occasion.
Over ten distinct instances throughout the Multiverse Saga, Downey will portray Doom, aiming to initiate a reign of multiversal chaos in the movie Doomsday>. With possible connections to his Marvel Cinematic Universe past as Tony Stark, fans are eagerly waiting to witness how Downey’s transition into a sinister villain unfolds, especially given his role as such an influential antagonist.
Paul Rudd
In the upcoming film “Doomsday”, it’s Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) who returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He first joined the MCU at the age of 46, and by the time “Avengers: Doomsday” is released, he will be celebrating his 57th birthday on screen.
Rudd has played Ant-Man in six Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films since his debut in Phase 2, with the latest being Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania in 2023. Although this movie may not have as significant an influence on Avengers 5 as initially thought, Rudd’s presence will bring a seasoned touch to the many new faces joining the cast.
Pedro Pascal
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I can’t help but share an exciting piece of news: I’ll be witnessing history in action as the upcoming film, “Doomsday,” will mark the debut of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Fantastic Four on the big screen. And get this – Pedro Pascal, famously known for his role as The Mandalorian, has been cast as Reed Richards, leading the team!
This incredible news comes at an auspicious time, as Pedro Pascal recently celebrated his 50th birthday, and filming for “Doomsday” has just kicked off. This movie will be Pascal’s second adventure in the MCU, continuing his journey as the franchise’s Mr. Fantastic!
After making my debut as Pascal in The Fantastic Four: First Steps in 2025, I’m eager to leverage Reed Richards’ genius and elastic abilities in the Avengers’ upcoming fight against Doom. This promising start could pave the way for a significant run within the MCU, given my involvement in other massive franchises like Star Wars and The Last of Us.
Patrick Stewart
Announcing the cast for Doomsday sparked a round of cheers, as it was confirmed that Sir Patrick Stewart would reprise his role as Charles Xavier (Professor X) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at 85 years old, making him one of the oldest leading actors in the MCU so far. His first-ever Avengers film is set to premiere in theaters.
On the occasion of Stewart’s 60th birthday, he marked the event during the premiere weekend of the 2000 film “X-Men“, where he made his first appearance as the potent telepathic mutant, later appearing in a total of nine films. This will be his second time appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness“, as he joins forces with fellow veteran X-Men.
Ian McKellen
In the upcoming movie “Doomsday” from the X-Men series, Ian McKellen, known for playing Magneto, is set to join forces with Stewart. Already creating a buzz on the film’s set, McKellen, just slightly older than Stewart, will be turning 87, which coincidentally falls only a few weeks after “Doomsday” hits theaters in May 2026.
Sir Ian McKellen has played the Omega-level master of magnetism, originally a villain/antihero, in the X-Men series since 2000, with his debut at the age of 61. His upcoming appearance as Doomsday in the MCU marks a significant milestone for him, being his return to this role after a six-year gap since 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
James Marsden
After his notable performances in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” and “Paradise”, James Marsden is all set to reappear in the Marvel universe as Cyclops in “Avengers: Doomsday”. At the time of the movie’s release, Marsden will be 52 years old. He has been chosen to portray Scott Summers, a key character among the X-Men from the comics, who is one of their leaders.
In the upcoming film “Doomsday“, Marsden will portray Cyclops for the fifth time. However, since his brief appearance in “Days of Future Past” in 2014, this is the first time we’ll see him in this role again. Starting as Cyclops at just 26 years old, this new opportunity allows him to bring a more mature and experienced portrayal of the visually talented leader of the X-Men.
Kelsey Grammer
In the movie “Doomsday,” Stewart and Kelsey Grammer, who’s well recognized as Dr. Hank McCoy or Beast in the MCU, will team up again. Interestingly, Grammer will be 71 years old when he portrays Beast for the fourth time on screen, which is expected to happen before his actual birthday in early 2026.
51-year-old Kelsey Grammer first portrayed Beast in “X-Men: The Last Stand” (2006). He has reprised the role on two subsequent occasions, including a post-credits scene from 2023’s “The Marvels”. With fans speculating about his potential appearance in “Avengers: Doomsday”, Grammer’s iconic mutant appears poised to play a significant role in this upcoming narrative.
Alan Cumming
One of the surprising announcements about upcoming apocalyptic roles was the confirmation that Alan Cumming would once again portray Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler. This character, known for his blue skin, is now 61 years old and will return to the Marvel universe after an absence of 23 years.
38 years old when he initially stepped into Nightcrawler’s role, he made his debut as the renowned teleporting mutant in 2003’s “X2”. This was his sole Marvel movie appearance so far. His upcoming appearance in “Doomsday” offers him an opportunity to employ contemporary filming methods and a streamlined costuming process for the role.
Rebecca Romijn
I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be witnessing the return of a beloved character, none other than Rebecca Romijn reprising her iconic role as Mystique in the upcoming series, Doomsday. It’s fascinating to know that she will don the blue skin once more when she turns 53, a stark contrast to the 27-year-old actress who first brought this Marvel antihero to life.
In the upcoming “Avengers 5”, Alison Romijn will reprise her fifth portrayal of Mystique, a character renowned for her shape-shifting powers. Her last performance as Mystique was in the 2011 film “X-Men: First Class“. With the advancements in CGI technology, it’s expected that depicting Mystique’s blue skin and mutant abilities on screen will be more seamless in this new era.
David Harbour
As a fan excitedly preparing for my first adventure with the Avengers, I, David Harbour, am looking forward to stepping into the role of Alexei Shostakov, better known as the Red Guardian. With “Avengers: Doomsday” set to premiere just weeks before my 51st birthday, it’s shaping up to be an unforgettable year!
In 2021, Harbour made his debut as Red Guardian in “Black Widow”. He’s set to repeat this role in live-action for the 2025 film “Thunderbolts” and in animated form for “Marvel Zombies”. This will be his fifth portrayal of the character, but his exact role in the upcoming ensemble movie is yet to be specified.
Avengers: Doomsday will debut in theaters on May 1, 2026.
