HanWay Films has revealed the cast for its upcoming horror film titled Rapture. Joining Heartstopper star Kit Connor and Elite actor Manu Ríos is Will Poulter, who stepped into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2023 as cosmic hero Adam Warlock.
As stated in the synopsis, “Rapture” will star three main actors and is set in Medieval England during the year 1348. The story centers around Lansley Abbey, a secluded stone monastery in Yorkshire that’s home to ten monks who adhere strictly to their spiritual duties. Their tranquil existence is disturbed by the arrival of a messenger carrying ominous news from beyond the abbey walls, who soon starts exhibiting symptoms of an enigmatic illness. This illness, spreading rapidly across the land, is initially characterized by a hemorrhagic fever and transforms its victims into ‘revenants’ – unsettling, undead beings.
In the ensuing chaos as the contagion approaches, Lansley Abbey transforms into a battleground. Desperate outsiders plead for sanctuary, while the infected pose a threat to its fortifications. The monks are divided by a profound moral dilemma; some advocate caring for the sick, while others seek to safeguard the millennia-old knowledge within the monastery. As death spreads rampantly, so does the capacity of the monks to perform remarkable acts of selflessness and cold-blooded treachery, compelling them to grapple with a profound question: what truly defines being human?
The reunion of Poulter and Connor, who previously worked together this year, is scheduled through Rupture. Debuting filmmaker and playwright Jordan Tannahill will helm his first feature film directing project with the medieval-themed zombie movie.
Gabrielle Stewart, CEO of HanWay Films, was deeply impressed by Jordan’s vision for the movie Rapture. Few films manage to create an atmospheric and terrifying zombie horror story set in a historically accurate world, with characters facing challenging moral dilemmas. It’s no surprise that such a compelling project has already attracted top-tier actors like Will, Kit, and Manu, with even more talented individuals joining the team.
Could Rapture Prevent Will Poulter From Appearing in Avengers: Doomsday?
In approximately a month following Marvel Studios’ announcement, Poulter was cast in the movie “Rapture”. Fans soon observed that none of the actors from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy were confirmed for the upcoming joint film, causing speculation among them about whether popular characters like Star-Lord, Adam Warlock, and Rocket Raccoon would be left out. However, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has since reassured fans that further casting details for “Doomsday” will be revealed in due course.
Although filming for “Rapture,” a zombie movie scheduled to start this year in Hungary, is expected to last approximately six months, it might curtail Maximus Poulter’s participation as Adam Warlock in the upcoming MCU blockbuster, “Doomsday.” This doesn’t guarantee that he won’t appear at all, but his role could be reduced. Until Marvel provides an official update on Poulter’s involvement in “Doomsday,” fans can only wait and hope for a continued presence of their beloved character in future Avengers movies.
