Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars Starfighter Movie Could Replace The Mandalorian’s Iconic Ship

Starfighter,” which was announced at Star Wars Celebration 2025, might incorporate one significant element from the “Mandalorian” series. This movie by Shawn Levy is an independent production set a few years after “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” Although specifics are limited, we understand that “Starfighter” will concentrate on entirely new characters, with Gosling rumored to portray a pilot, possibly one who possesses Force sensitivity.

Despite the apparent tenuous connection between the title “Starfighter” and the 25-year-old “Star Wars: Starfighter” game, its potential ties with the “Mandalorian” franchise, particularly the upcoming film “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” might not be as weak as they seem. There’s a strong possibility that one key element from the “Mandalorian” universe could be incorporated into “Star Wars: Starfighter.” Specifically, Ryan Gosling’s character in the Mandalorian series is expected to have a starship, and it looks like “Star Wars: Starfighter” could provide an ideal vessel for this purpose.

The Razor Crest’s Return Means We Might Not See The N-1 In The Mandalorian & Grogu

In the second season of The Mandalorian, when Din Djarin’s beloved Razor Crest was destroyed, both Din and Star Wars enthusiasts felt a deep sorrow. It was an ideal vessel for a bounty hunter, boasting ample space and state-of-the-art defensive systems. However, many were taken aback when Din Djarin’s new ship turned out to be a Naboo N-1 Starfighter. While the N-1 was agile and swift, there were questions about whether it met Din’s specific needs. With Grogu now enjoying a panoramic view of the cosmos, one had to wonder: What about all of Din’s gear? Would he be able to continue bounty hunting if he needed to?

Surprisingly, it appears that the Razor Crest will reappear in the upcoming series, The Mandalorian and Grogu. Footage unveiled at Star Wars Celebration 2025, as well as earlier at D23 in 2024, shows the Razor Crest, suggesting that it won’t be shown so prominently if its role is insignificant. Since we last saw The Mandalorian in season 3, Din and Grogu are now working as bounty hunters for the New Republic. Giving them back their Razor Crest seems fitting under these circumstances. It’s likely that they will be away from home for extended periods while searching the galaxy for signs of the Empire’s resurface, making a spacious and well-armed ship like the Razor Crest essential.

The Razor Crest has been a significant element in the visual identity of The Mandalorian. Should it reappear as Din’s main vessel (which we anticipate), then there’s a strong possibility that his customized N-1 Starfighter might not feature prominently, or perhaps not at all. But just because it may be absent for now doesn’t mean we won’t see it again. In fact, I believe it would fit nicely in the context of Star Wars: Starfighter.

Star Wars: Starfighter Could Bring Back The Naboo Starfighter

While the N-1 Starfighter might not have been the ideal vessel for Din Djarin’s personality, it could be an excellent fit for Ryan Gosling’s character. Despite this, it remains a stunningly cool spacecraft. Its design is distinctive, its speed is exceptional, and even Din Djarin found pleasure in piloting it. If Ryan Gosling’s character is indeed a skilled pilot, particularly one with Force sensitivity as we suspect, a sleek, swift, agile ship like the N-1 could offer some thrilling, fast-paced action sequences.

Absolutely! In the storyline, Starfighter unfolds after The Rise of Skywalker, implying that a starship from the prequel era like Naboo would appear more “antiquated” in-universe. But providing Gosling’s character and his possible allies with an N-1, or at least a similar model, offers an advantage by distinguishing them from other pilots of the same period. They seem to be significant enough to merit their own narratives, so why not equip them with a unique vessel? In this way, they stand out and their ship matches their special status.

From a commercial standpoint, reusing the N-1 would be advantageous for Disney since they could continue selling merchandise related to the N-1 or effortlessly update existing designs without any drawbacks. Characters like Din Djarin and Grogu should get their Razor Crest back in The Mandalorian and Grogu, but I think there’s still potential in the N-1. Why not use it in Star Wars: Starfighter to showcase its remaining potential?
