Chloë Sevigny Wants Reverse-Aging to Reprise ‘American Psycho’ Role

Chloe Sevigny is set to return to her character in Luca Guadagnino’s fresh take on the story, and she’s had discussions with him regarding her involvement in the upcoming film.

In the 2000 movie “American Psycho,” Sevigny initially played the role of Patrick Bateman’s (Bale) secretary, Jean. She appears keen to reprise this part in a fresh take on Bret Easton Ellis’ contentious novel. When she learned that Luca Guadagnino might be involved, she wasn’t sure if he was definitely on board (he may have been working on a WWII film instead). Sevigny proposed the idea to him that she should once again portray Jean, and suggested the use of de-aging effects to make it happen.

It seems Guadgnino wasn’t fully on board with the idea. “I thought he would find it appealing, given that the same actress would portray the same role. However, I’m not sure. He mentioned he was considering something different for me instead,” Sevigny explained.

Guadagnino and Sevigny often work together, with Guadagnino penning and directing the eight-episode miniseries “We Are Who We Are” featuring Sevigny on HBO. Additionally, Sevigny starred in Guadagnino’s 2022 romantic horror movie “Bones and All,” and is also set to appear in his upcoming suspenseful film “After the Hunt” alongside Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, and others.

The initial American Psycho movie has solidified its status as a cult favorite and is often praised for one of Christian Bale’s best performances. Critiquing yuppie culture and materialism, the film combined slasher and horror elements with dark comedy, ultimately becoming a successful release in the 2000s. Guadagnino’s upcoming novel adaptation is still in its early phases, and it’s being labeled as a “fresh take” on the book, rather than a direct remake or continuation.

Original American Psycho Team is Optimistic About Guadagnino’s Reboot

Despite ongoing debates among internet users regarding the necessity of a new adaptation of American Psycho, the original movie’s production team is cautiously moving forward, while taking into account the current oversaturation in adaptations. Actor Matt Ross, who starred in the original film, expressed his reservations, stating, “On one hand, I am always disheartened by remakes. The challenge for any new cast is significant due to Christian’s exceptional performance.

Chris Hanley, the producer of “American Psycho”, has confidence in Luca Guadagnino to produce a quality film. Hanley stated, “Luca is an exceptional director who has never made a less-than-stellar movie.” As of now, specific details about the upcoming “American Psycho” movie are kept secret, but it will again be distributed by Lionsgate. Although no formal casting decisions have been announced yet, Austin Butler is strongly rumored to be one of the top contenders for the role of Patrick Bateman, bringing a fresh perspective to Bale’s portrayal.

Guadagnino’s American Psycho reboot does not have a release date at this time.
