Netflix fans have something exciting to look forward to! The highly acclaimed horror film from 2022 is set to premiere on our platform next month.
Netflix has officially announced that the critically-acclaimed and commercially successful horror movie titled ‘Barbarian’, directed by Zach Cregger, will be released on June 1st. The film premiered in 2022 and features Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, and Justin Long in leading roles.
In one version, the character is identified as Barbarian, who assumes ownership of a specific dwelling. Here, he portrays Keith, an individual who unknowingly reserves the same Detroit property concurrently with another woman named Tess Marshall, both being oblivious to the house’s ominous past.
The chilling film made its debut at San Diego Comic-Con on July 22, 2022, and hit theaters nationwide on September 9 of the same year. Known as “Barbarian”, this production garnered praise from critics and proved to be a box office success.
Three years have passed, and Barbarian has maintained a remarkably high 92% “Certified Fresh” rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. However, audience reception wasn’t as fervent, but the horror movie continues to garner a solid 70% score on the Popcornmeter.
In his first attempt as a director and screenwriter, Barbarian marked Cregger’s debut. This movie, produced at a budget ranging from $4 million to $4.5 million, ended up earning a staggering $45.3 million globally (according to Box Office Mojo), making it a significant success for both the director and 20th Century Fox, who distributed the film in cinemas.
Earlier, the horror movie was streamable on Netflix. In early May, it was disclosed that during the week of April 29, the film attracted 4.6 million viewers and accumulated a total of 7.9 million viewing hours.
Barbarian’s Netflix Release Comes Ahead of Zach Cregger’s New Film
2022’s horror movie served as an impressive solo directorial debut for Cregger, who had previously co-directed comedies like “Miss March” (2009) and “The Civil War on Drugs” (2011) with Trevor Moore. Following the success of “Barbarian”, there are high expectations for his next project. This year, Cregger has also worked on another film, “Companion”, but in a producing role. The sci-fi thriller “Companion” was well-received, positioning the director for another triumph.
The upcoming film titled “Weapons” will make its debut on August 8th, featuring an impressive cast. A brief teaser for the movie has been released, followed by the unveiling of the first trailer and poster. This intriguing horror production is the work of Cregger, who serves as both writer, director, and producer.
This ensemble cast of Marvel actors features Josh Brolin (Thanos from the MCU), Julia Garner who will appear in The Fantastic Four: The First Steps, Benedict Wong continuing his role as Wong in the MCU, along with Alden Ehrenreich known for Solo: A Star Wars Story and Oppenheimer, Cary Christopher, and Amy Madigan from the film The Hunt.
In the near future, there will be a reveal, hinted at in recent trailers. These previews showcased a fictitious newspaper article that presented Cregger’s earlier movie as if it were actual news.
Barbarian returns on Netflix on June 1.
