Billie Lourd Honors Mom Carrie Fisher on May the 4th with Sweet Photo

On May 4th, affectionately referred to as “May the Fourth” among fans, was celebrated by enthusiasts of the franchise, as well as those who have become a part of its legacy. A post shared by Billie Lourd, a Star Wars alumna, demonstrates how she honored her late mother, Carrie Fisher, who iconically played the beloved character Leia.

On May 4th, Lourd posted a picture showing her two kids watching Star Wars on TV. In the scene, Fisher is portraying Leia, and this moment serves as a memory of her for the family. Carrie Fisher passed away in 2016 when Lourd’s children were not yet born (born in 2020 and 2022). Lourd cleverly used Star Wars-themed emojis to spell “May the 4th” in her caption. In the Star Wars saga, Lourd had the chance to act alongside her real-life mother. For instance, in the sequel trilogy, Lourd – Fisher’s daughter – portrayed Lieutenant Connix. Moreover, in one scene from this series, CGI technology was used to merge Lourd’s face with Fisher’s likeness. In another notable role, Lourd paid tribute to her mother by depicting a character on Scream Queens who donned ear muffs as a tribute to Leia’s famous hairstyle.

2016 saw Carrie Fisher experiencing a health crisis mid-air, which led to an intensive care hospitalization. Four days later, she succumbed to cardiac arrest and passed away. The following day, Fisher’s mother, actress Debbie Reynolds, suffered a stroke as a result of the shocking and sudden demise of her daughter. Reynolds sadly passed away later that day at the age of 84.

Carrie Fisher Is Never Forgotten

Last year, Lourd expressed in an Instagram post that she always finds this particular day difficult, filled with anticipation of sadness. True to her feelings, she woke up feeling gloomy. However, when her children awoke, the gloom lifted, replaced by radiant sunshine. She likened the anniversary of her mother’s death to an emotional tropical storm: it brings downpours of emotion throughout the day, but between the storms, the light is more stunning than on any day without clouds. She pointed out that rainbows only appear after rain.

She expressed, “My sorrow has made me cherish the tiny instances of life even more. Thus, today, I am both grieving and thankful. I observe the enchantment that is my son and daughter, and I recognize that she is a part of that magic. And I feel everything – the sorrow, the joy, the yearning, the magic, the emptiness, the fullness. They all exist harmoniously in an incredibly deep manner.
