Janhvi Kapoor SLAMS Trolls at Met Gala 2025: ‘Celebrate Indian Designers, Not Mock Them!’

2025’s Met Gala saw a star-studded lineup of Indian icons like Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Kiara Advani, and Diljit Dosanjh gracing the red carpet at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Some fashion enthusiasts applauded their interpretation of Black Dandyism, but many on social media voiced dissatisfaction, even going so far as to label it a Bollywood-fication of the Met Gala. This criticism targeted not only Indian designers, but also their celebrity representatives. Amidst this backlash, Janhvi Kapoor took a stand to defend the presence and representation of these talented Indian fashion creators.

Janhvi Kapoor expressed in a post comment that it’s high time for Indian artisans and fashion designers to earn international acclaim. She underscored the importance of Indian designers having a presence on the global stage, alongside our nation’s esteemed figures. Furthermore, she suggested that instead of feeling disheartened by seeing Indian talent at events like the Met, people should take pride in it.

Actress Param Sundari publicly declared her sense of accomplishment, highlighting that the clothing she represents are among the most breathtaking. She also emphasized that the skillful artistry of India has often been utilized worldwide, yet it frequently lacks the recognition it deserves.

Janhvi pointed out that persistent elitist views mirrored the lingering effects of colonial oppression, since for many years, the global community had taken inspiration from Indian textiles, embroidery, and jewelry without giving proper credit to their source.

Kapoor expressed her joy at witnessing Indian artisans and their heritage showcased at such an esteemed gathering, describing the occasion as even more enchanting because of the sense of pride it evoked in her.

At the occasion, Shah Rukh Khan teamed up with Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh for their first outing together, while Priyanka Chopra graced the event for her fifth time. Shah Rukh wore a black ensemble by Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s design.

Kiara’s wardrobe, tailored to accommodate her pregnancy, showcased a metallic representation of a heart and an umbilical cord, while Diljit’s attire paid homage to his Punjabi heritage, featuring a map of Punjab and intricate Gurmukhi embroidery.

As a dedicated follower, I had the privilege of being part of an esteemed gathering that was jointly steered by influential personalities. Among them were singer Pharrell Williams, actor Colman Domingo, Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky, and Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Notably, basketball legend LeBron James graced us with his presence as an honorary co-chair.
