In the original X-Men film series timeline, X-Men: The Last Stand provides the most significant clue suggesting the need for clothing. As Raven Darkholme (Mystique) lost her powers due to the mutant cure in this movie, it was clear she could no longer change her appearance at will. Therefore, nudity would not have been an option in subsequent films featuring Mystique.

Despite the cinematic depiction of Mystique wearing clothes in the past, like when Jennifer Lawrence portrayed her character with an X-Men uniform, it’s understandable that they opted for this approach given the extensive makeup process involved in portraying Mystique, as shared by the actor from No Hard Feelings.

Even though Rebecca Romijn might still be fine with getting dressed up and if her character Raven still possesses her powers, using some kind of uniform would still reduce the time spent in the makeup chair significantly.
