Fox is bringing back some faves from both inside the family and outside of it.
Initially, “American Dad!” is making its comeback to the original broadcast network where it initially aired. (Previously, “American Dad!” was on Fox before shifting to TBS for over a decade.) However, this isn’t about the show’s previous return; instead, let me share some exciting news – Fox has brought back two popular game shows from the 2000s for its fall and midseason lineup.
The popular game show, “The Weakest Link,” is making its comeback, this time with a celebrity edition! Starting this fall, every Monday evening at 9 p.m., you can catch the new series called “Celebrity Weakest Link” on your screens, immediately following Name That Tune.
Michael Thorn, president of Fox Network, has shared that discussions about reintroducing “The Weakest Link” have been ongoing since around last summer. He mentioned there were several potential chances, with the primary goal being to bring Jane Lynch back onto the network first. This was stated during a recent conference call.
She’s fantastic, and we’re delighted to welcome her back to Fox,” Thorn stated to the press before Fox’s Monday upfront. However, there’s another aspect to it: we spotted a chance to host a celebrity-themed game night on Mondays, serving as robust counter-programming during fall seasons. As soon as it came up for grabs, it seemed like a distinct intellectual property and something that could beautifully complement our game shows.
As the mid-point of the season arrives, “Fear Factor” will make its debut on Fox, but with an unexpected turn. Instead of competing independently, this time the competitors will reside under one roof – let’s hope their worst fears don’t involve sharing living space!
Thorn mentioned that Fear Factor has just been brought up, and he found it to be an exceptional title. It’s a masterful example of visceral narrative.
As a diehard fan, I must say that the opportunity to infuse it with a touch of reality felt like an obvious choice for me. It’s both a happy coincidence and thrilling at the same time.
He’s talking about the similarity he’s pointing out, which is that Fox network is currently airing NBC’s 2001 programming lineup.
In this context, Rob Wade, CEO of Fox Entertainment, emphasized the significance of reinventing the concept. He referred to it as “Fear Factor,” stating that they will adopt the brand name. However, he believes that the producers have developed a unique twist on it, and it won’t resemble the show from two decades ago.
It remains unclear whether Joe Rogan will take on hosting duties for Fear Factor, or if he’ll contribute in any capacity at all. (Fear Factor during the day, Joe Rogan Podcast at night, all the time!) In case you missed it, there have been quite a few developments in Rogan’s career since his tenure as host of the original Fear Factor on NBC from 2001-06, along with the revival season in 2012.
We’ve recently acquired the series, and at present, we’re busy with the recruitment of showrunners and discussions about potential hosts. Rogan is a significant asset connected to the program, but as of now, we’re undecided on our next steps. However, we’re excited about owning the property and believe it will be an excellent addition to our unscripted collection.
