NBC Planning 100th Anniversary TV Special in 2026

In 2026, NBC is set to turn 100 years old, and they’re preparing a special on-air celebration to commemorate the milestone.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who have new ventures at NBCUniversal, unveiled their upcoming special on Monday during NBCU’s presentation to advertisers. At this point, specifics are not yet available, but they revealed that it will showcase popular talents from the network, as well as musical performances.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler announced a new project at NBCUniversal on Monday. They didn’t give many details, but we know it will involve stars from the network and music performances.

Since NBC is twice the age of Saturday Night Live, the upcoming special will also last twice as long – six hours, Fey humorously stated on stage, referencing the three-hour Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special held in February.

The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) was established back in 1926 primarily as a radio network, which makes it the oldest commercial broadcasting network in the U.S., with CBS emerging a year later. Its television debut took place during the early 1940s, and “Meet the Press,” the longest-running TV show in American history, first aired in 1947. Both the morning program “Today” and the late-night classic “The Tonight Show” have been on our screens since the 1950s.

During a humorous presentation at the upfront event on Monday, late-night show host Seth Meyers brought up NBC’s centennial celebration in his remarks. He joked, “Did you know NBC is 100 years old? That’s quite an appealing fact for viewers between the ages of 18 and 49, isn’t it?

Excitedly, I’m sharing that NBC has unveiled its lineup for the 2025-26 television season in anticipation of Monday’s upfront event. One of the highlights they’re particularly thrilled about is the NBA coming back to their network, and even more so, the addition of basketball legend Michael Jordan as a contributor to NBC’s coverage. Can’t wait to see what this collaboration brings!
