Yusuf/Cat Stevens Announces Memoir ‘Cat on the Road to Find Out’

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Yusuf, also known as Cat Stevens, revealed plans for his memoir titled “Cat on the Road to Find Out” on Tuesday. This personal account of his life will be available in the U.K. on September 18th through Constable Publishing, and in North America on October 7th via Genesis Publications.

The book “Cat on the Road to Find Out” follows the journey of Cat Stevens (later known as Yusuf Islam) from his beginnings in the music industry during the ’60s, through his rise to fame by the ’70s with popular albums like “Tea for the Tillerman” and “The First Cut is the Deepest”. It also delves into the 1975 incident that nearly claimed his life, leading him to convert to Islam and adopt the name Yusuf Islam, subsequently stepping away from the music industry. However, the book will also highlight his resurgence in the music scene since the ’90s, with his comeback marked by the release of “An Other Cup”, his first pop album in nearly 30 years in 2006, followed by five more albums, including his latest one, “King of the Land”, which came out in 2023.

Since returning to pop music, Yusuf/Stevens has embarked on multiple tours, with his initial comeback tour taking place in 2014. To date, he has sold more than 100 million records and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. In addition to this, he was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019. Pre-order information for his book and ticket details for his upcoming book tour can be found on Stevens’ official website.

My adventure has taken me from the tight alleys of London to renowned cities worldwide, where I’ve had the privilege to perform on prestigious stages in the grand tapestry of Western culture. I climbed the lofty peaks of affluence, acclaim, and artistic success, while exploring diverse religions and philosophies across churches, temples, and even reaching the sacred site in Jerusalem. Disregarding legends and warnings, I ventured through the ominous deserts to reach the Abode of God in Arabia of Abrahamic faith. However, it was a radiant book that ultimately transformed my perspective by harmonizing my thoughts, beliefs, and understanding of human nature. It taught me unity and revealed my role and purpose within the cosmos.
