After 11 Years, This Bitcoin Time Capsule Just Spit Out $31M—You Won’t Believe What Happened!

Well now, on Tuesday, some lonesome bitcoin wallet that’s been sleeping longer than Rip Van Winkle finally stretched its legs and moved 300 BTC—worth a whopping $31.06 million (bless its digital heart) for the first time since April 3, 2014. I reckon it just got bored sitting there collecting dust and decided to remind us all what FOMO feels like. 🤠

Bitcoin Time Capsule Opens: 2014 Whale Wallet Transfers $31M

With bitcoin prices prancing all fancy above $103,000 like a show-off at the town fair, a few more of these old-timers have started waking up—probably heard folks bragging about diamond hands and thought, “Hold my beer.” On the 13th of May, at block height 896,546, a crusty old P2PKH wallet
decided to get frisky and sent its entire potato sack of coins to a shiny new Bech32 address. The coins are still sitting there—unmoved, probably scoping out the neighborhood before they make any rash decisions. Can’t blame ’em. The internet’s gotten weirder than ever.

The bitcoin cash (BCH) cousins, worth about $120,916, are just as lazy—haven’t budged an inch. Back in 2014, when 300 BTC could buy you a decent house (or an indecent college degree), this stash was worth only $133,200. That’s a 23,223% gain. If only my garden tomatoes performed like that, I’d have retired to the moon years ago. 🚀🍅 Can’t say the same for Blockchair’s privacy score, which rang in at a meager
45 out of 100—about as confidential as telling your secrets to the town gossip over lemonade.

The wallet’s owner went and used the same address for multiple transactions—big privacy no-no. Then they hit “send everything,” which is crypto-slang for “Y’all, watch this!” This spring seems to be the official zombie bitcoin resurrection season, with vintage wallets (2013 and 2017, the good ol’ days, before influencers ruined the internet) showing signs of life. In May,
just one other 2014 address roused itself, moving 34.05 “antique” bitcoins outta hiding at block height 895,558. Somebody fetch a historian!

At block 896,550, the grand count of BTC in the world sits at
19,864,000.85. Now, here’s a number to tickle your whiskers: about 17% (3,386,844.68 BTC) hasn’t seen the light of day in more than a decade. At least 30.62% (6,078,044.26 BTC) haven’t stretched their legs in five years or more. Think about that next time you lose a sock in the dryer. And just for kicks, there’s another 1,767,638.28 BTC (8.90% of the supply) in unspent block rewards—over a million left untouched since 2009. Maybe Satoshi’s hoarding them for a rainy day… or just has better things to do.
