As a gamer, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the system requirements for Stellar Blade are remarkably lightweight. It’s heartening to know that even an older gaming rig, nearly a decade old, could handle Sony’s NieR action game. With the influx of games powered by Unreal Engine 5 (Stellar Blade utilizes UE4), we can’t expect every title to be as lightweight, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that more Sony ports will follow this trend, offering a broader range of gaming experiences for gamers like me.
According to the latest update on the PlayStation blog, the official system specifications have been made available before the game’s release on June 11th. To enjoy Stellar Blade at a 1080p resolution with 60 frames per second and the Low graphics setting, all you need is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580 graphics card.
In my gaming days back then, I had two graphics cards – one from 2016, an entry-level model, and another from 2017, a mainstream one. Despite being from different years, they delivered similar performance. Both retailed for around $200 initially, but could be found at lower prices later on. This made it possible for me to run the game Stellar Blade even with my budget setup from that time.
For a minimum setup, budget-friendly options such as an Intel Core i5 7600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X from around a decade ago meet CPU requirements for Stellar Blade. The main challenge in running Stellar Blade on an older system might be securing the necessary 75 GB of storage space to download it, or potentially dealing with the 16 GB of RAM requirement.
Minimum (Low) | Recommended (Medium | High | Very High | |
OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |

GPU | Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 / AMD Radeon RX 580 | Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super / AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT | Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super / AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT | Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 / AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT |

Storage | 75 GB HDD (SSD recommended) | 75 GB SSD | 75 GB SSD | 75 GB SSD |
Notes | 1080p @ 60 fps | 1440p @ 60 fps | 1440p @ 60 fps | 4K @ 60 fps |
Running the game at its highest settings in 4K resolution doesn’t call for a high-end supercomputer. With an Intel Core i5 8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X processor, and either an RTX 3080 or Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics card, you can easily observe the shiny beads of rain cascading down Eve’s hair. This setup is quite powerful, and in 2020, RTX 3080 cards were selling for around $700-$800, although their availability was often limited due to demand from cryptocurrency miners.
Significantly, the primary distinction between operating the game at Medium or Very High settings in 4K resolution lies with the graphics processing unit (GPU). However, the Steam Deck’s compatibility remains uncertain, although its low specifications hint that it might be able to run the game, particularly when considering the ROG Ally’s power is similar to a GTX 1060.
If you own a powerful gaming setup, you’ll definitely notice the advantages when playing Stellar Blade. This is because it supports both Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3 technologies, along with an unlimited frame rate. Since the game is an action-adventure with hack-and-slash features, it seems logical that the developers aim to provide a smooth gaming experience by allowing high frame rates.
Indeed, system requirements aren’t the sole determinant of a game’s success on PC. For instance, The Last of Us Part 1 encountered poor performance issues, while The Last of Us Part 2 had slightly improved performance. Spider-Man 2 struggled significantly at launch, but has seen improvements since. However, Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, have excelled on PC, as has God of War. Sony’s past efforts in porting games to PC are commendable, leading me to anticipate that Stellar Blade will meet expectations based on its system requirements.
We’ll know more about Stellar Blade’s performance when it launches on June 11.
