Rukhsar Rehman, who starred alongside Aamir Khan in PK, didn’t have an easy start in Bollywood. Before roles in films such as Sarkar, Uri, and more, she made her debut in the industry at 17 with Yaad Rakhegi Duniya. Despite her dreams, family pressure forced her to temporarily abandon acting. Her parents arranged her marriage, making her a mother by age 19. As she left home, Rehman expressed doubts about her decision, wondering if it was the right path for her.
Rukhsar Rehman, in an interview with Humans of Bombay, revealed that having Aisha as her child brought a fresh meaning to her life, yet beneath the seemingly perfect exterior, she was battling to fulfill her duties as a loving spouse. Over time, the pressure grew, eventually leading to the dissolution of her marriage.
In a subtle manner, it became clear that a significant shift in her life’s chapter had occurred one evening. She gently collected a few possessions, and with her eight-month-old baby peacefully sleeping, oblivious to the upcoming transformations, she slipped away.
Rukhsar often doubted her decision, questioning if it was the best course of action. However, she felt certain within herself that she had given it her all. Upon coming back to her father’s home, he didn’t utter a single word of criticism, instead, he confidently reassured her that everything would be fine.
In her small-town home of Rampur, Rukhsar Rehman began anew, relying solely on perseverance as she established a humble clothing store to support herself and her child, Aisha. However, the artistic fire burning within her continued to shine brightly.
After spending several years, a feeling of unease began to surface within her. Describing it as one of the toughest choices she’s ever made, she entrusted Aisha to her parents and embarked on a journey to find herself again.
Her aim was unmistakable: crafting a brighter tomorrow for her child. Following over a decade’s absence, she re-entered the field in 2005, handling minor parts, participating in casting calls, and enduring setbacks, yet persisting unwaveringly.
Rukhsar Rehman didn’t exactly have a seamless comeback to acting, but through determination, each chance she received eventually opened the door for another.
After consistently taking on various film and TV roles, she managed to rebuild her reputation and gain recognition once more. During this time, she also encountered love a second time and wed filmmaker Faruk Kabir. Yet, life presented further emotional trials for her to face.
Looking back at those instances, she admitted feeling the hurt but also expressed gratitude towards her daughter Aisha, whom she deemed as her unwavering source of strength. In fact, she openly acknowledged that, in numerous aspects, it was Aisha who played a significant role in nurturing her.
At certain points, she felt her path in acting seemed to conclude, yet her deep-seated love for acting prevented her from surrendering. She often stated that when something is destined for you, the way becomes clear once you’ve grown prepared to tread it.
