It appears that a fresh Batman video game is under development following Warner Bros.’ significant financial losses on Suicide Squad. In response, the company has enforced a tight policy to produce games exclusively based on Batman, Harry Potter, and Mortal Kombat. Regrettably, this decision resulted in the cancellation of the Wonder Woman game that would have incorporated the Nemesis system, which is unfortunate news for fans eagerly anticipating it.
Since there are no upcoming games featuring Wonder Woman or Middle Earth, could the next Batman game incorporate the distinctive Nemesis system that Warner Bros. owns? Given that Warner Bros. has patented this system and prohibits other developers from using and enhancing it, it seems logical for them to reintroduce it in the new Batman title.
Shadow of Mordor was a distinctive element that made your deaths significant. Essentially, if an enemy defeated you, they would advance in rank, growing stronger and gaining followers to command. This mechanism was, and remains, excellent, and it’s unfortunate that WB chose to restrict others from implementing this feature.
In a fresh Batman game, incorporating the Nemesis system could be highly fitting. Imagine, if you will, that overpowering this iconic vigilante would significantly boost the status of a common crook. The developers could even inject some fun by having Batman shield these newly-empowered thugs from envious criminals such as The Joker.
The nemesis system could pose a challenge in stealth missions as well, considering defeated foes might recruit tougher mercenaries. Similar to the Middle Earth games, this mechanic encourages players to tread cautiously when engaging enemies either directly or covertly. We’re hoping they retain the Pokemon-like vulnerability for each boss, enabling Bruce to strategize and instill fear in these criminals.
Despite the logic behind this system potentially fitting Batman better than Middle Earth tales, we can’t help but lament the cancellation of the Wonder Woman game. Even though we adore the Dark Knight and his numerous stories, it’s a shame that Diana has limited video game appearances. She’s been reduced to being a tyrant in Injustice and suffering a dramatic end in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (potential spoilers).

Given Warner Bros.’ past strategies, it’s quite likely that they will incorporate the Nemesis system into their upcoming Batman title. On the other hand, considering their history of projects, they might also attempt another live-service game. With Warner Bros., you just never know what’s next!
