Son of Longtime ‘Letterman’ Producer Charged With Attempted Murder

20-year-old Arlo Willner, son of the late music sketch producer for Saturday Night Live, Hal Willner, and his Emmy-winning producer wife Sheila Rogers, is facing charges for attempted murder following a stabbing incident outside a Manhattan bar during the weekend.

At exactly 3:35 a.m., Willner was taken into custody following an incident where it is claimed that he attacked three individuals outside Sally’s Bar, located on 129 Lexington Avenue.

Based on a criminal complaint obtained by the New York Post, it is claimed that Willner attempted to purchase cocaine from three individuals outside of a bar. When he was told that such activity was not permitted there, as reported by the Post, Willner is said to have drawn a knife and inflicted injuries upon one man in the neck, another in the abdomen, and a third in the shoulder.

According to the report, the assault concluded when one of the victims snatched the knife and tossed it onto the street.

The victims were taken to Bellevue hospital in stable condition.

Later on, Willner faced charges for attempted murder, assault, and illegal possession of a weapon.

He appeared in a criminal court in Manhattan, denying the charges against him and subsequently paying a $100,000 bond or offering a $200,000 guarantee as an alternative to cash.

His next court appearance is set for Thursday, May 22.

Willner’s attorney has not yet responded to The Hollywood Reporter‘s request for comment.

Recently, Rogers has been working as a talent producer for Saturday Night Live and the 50th anniversary special, as well as the Ladies and Gentlemen documentary that reflects on the music of the long-running late-night sketch show. Before this, she was a co-executive producer and supervising producer for The Late Late Show With James Corden until its end in 2023. Prior to that, she spent ten years as a producer and talent executive for The Late Show With David Letterman from 2005-2015. Additionally, she worked as a talent coordinator for Letterman’s Late Night from 1991-1993.

Hal Willner, a well-known music sketch producer for Saturday Night Live over many years, passed away in March 2020 following symptoms that resembled those of COVID-19.

Apart from his fame, he was recognized for gathering eclectic bands of musicians to perform slightly unconventional pieces. Additionally, he composed soundtracks for “Gangs of New York” and “Talladega Nights,” while also producing albums for Marianne Faithfull and Lou Reed.
