As a follower who’s deeply engaged with the cinematic world, I can’t help but express my excitement over “The Royals,” the captivating Netflix series featuring Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter in pivotal roles. The chemistry between these two talents has left audiences spellbound. Recently, comedian Sumukhi Suresh, who portrayed Bhumi’s executive assistant in the show, disclosed an intriguing tidbit: she was the recipient of admiring glances from not one, but two of her co-stars – neither Ishaan Khatter nor Vihaan Samat. Instead, it was Milind Soman and Dino Morea who caught her eye. Furthermore, Sumukhi shared that her initial role in the series was actually written for a male character.
During an interview with Mid-day, Sumukhi Suresh mentioned that while everyone admired the end result of Ishaan’s efforts, they all knew how hard he was working behind the scenes, expressing sympathy with “Oh poor thing, look at how much work he’s doing.” However, she couldn’t help but notice Milind Soman and Dino Morea. Additionally, she had the opportunity to dance with Dino.
When asked about receiving the script for The Royals and discovering that the original role, named Keertan, was written as male, she expressed, “Initially, I found out the character was male. But I was still thrilled to take on the part.” She added that she finds it interesting when roles traditionally assigned to males are given to females.
The comedian mentioned that initially, she was only cast for a minor part, yet she had the opportunity to develop her character through improvisation which expanded into a more significant role. She described this experience as “quite enjoyable” and commended the writers for allowing the actors such creative freedom.
Apart from discussing her experiences with acting, Sumukhi confided that it liberates her inner self. She openly acknowledged her affection for being on-camera and considered writing as a more structured approach to learning and improvement.
She expressed her desire to create an enduring impact through her writing and spoke about how the stage energizes her. Similarly, Sumukhi Suresh disclosed experiencing more setbacks than victories on stage, a fact she believes fosters humility.
As a dedicated follower, I’m excited to share that “The Royals” is skillfully directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana. This captivating series features a star-studded cast including Ishaan Khatter, Bhumi Pednekar, Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Chunky Panday, Vihaan Samat, Kavya Trehan, Sumukhi Suresh, Lisa Mishra, and many more in key roles.
The romantic comedy was released on Netflix on May 9, 2025.
