Good Wife’s Alt Ending: JDM Reveals What Could Have Been!

In the television series “The Good Wife,” Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character, Jason Crouse, had an originally planned different conclusion to his storyline. According to Morgan, this alternate plot could have provided a more satisfying resolution. For many TV viewers, their first encounter with Jeffrey Dean Morgan might have been as the complex villain, Negan, in “The Walking Dead.” However, it’s important to remember that before wielding his barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat against zombies, Morgan had a substantial acting career. Remarkably, he appeared in “The Good Wife” during season 7, a year prior to joining the cast of “The Walking Dead.

In the seventh season, episode 2 of “The Good Wife,” titled “Innocents,” we meet Jason Crouse, a former attorney who transitions into a role as an investigator. He joins Alicia Florrick (played by Julianna Margulies) and Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) when they establish their own law firm. Despite being disbarred due to accusations of punching a judge, it’s later unveiled that this tale was embellished, showcasing Jason as a more upstanding and competent worker than expected. He also develops a romantic connection with Alicia, although the series finale leaves their relationship somewhat unresolved.

Why Jeffrey Dean Morgan Didn’t Like The Good Wife Ending

Alicia And Jason Spent All Season Getting Close Only For The Show To End Before Their Reunion

In the concluding episode of “The Good Wife,” titled “End,” we find ourselves in season 7, episode 22. This is where Peter’s (Chris Noth) trial reaches its close. Initially, it seems Alicia will stand by Peter, but instead, she pursues Jason. Unfortunately, it seems Jason has vacated the premises, and their on-screen interaction is non-existent. It seemed promising for a romantic season arc between Alicia and Jason in “The Good Wife,” but alas, it was not to be. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who portrayed Jason, expressed his disappointment about the outcome (as reported by EW).

I didn’t find it to my liking. However, remember, it wasn’t my production. If Julianna enjoyed it, then I did too. What left me perplexed was the numerous unanswered questions about Jason and his relationship with Alicia. It felt like we were left hanging without any resolution for our characters and Alicia’s regarding that matter.

Throughout season 7, it’s evident that Jason and Alicia share a deep bond, one that develops naturally over time. However, as the Peter trial unfolds, there’s an intriguing speculation about Alicia possibly choosing to stay with her husband, regardless of his actions, due to her self-sacrificing nature. Unfortunately, this hypothesis isn’t fully addressed, leaving us puzzled and questioning the outcome.

The Good Wife Creatives Wanted Morgan Back For Reshoots

Morgan Was About To Film The Walking Dead At That Point

Despite strongly disliking the last episode of “The Good Wife” and the way his character was concluded, Jeffrey Dean Morgan suggested that there might have been additional layers to the tale if given another chance for filming. He made these remarks when asked about it.

Two weeks following our wrap-up, while I was already in Atlanta, I received a call and they requested a small reshoot. Unfortunately, I couldn’t participate as I had a filming commitment the next day, which made it impossible for me to return. I’m unsure about what the reshoot would have entailed, but I doubt it would have significantly altered the story or anything.

In my perspective as a fan, I can’t help but ponder if there was more to the tale of Jason and Alicia beyond what we’ve seen on screen. A captivating twist could have been Alicia eventually apprehending Jason after her relentless pursuit. However, this idea has never been hinted at by the production team, so it remains purely speculative. If additional scenes were to be added, they might just show Jason carrying on his journey post-courthouse.

Morgan was all set to film “The Walking Dead” when he received the phone call, making it extremely unlikely he would abandon such significant series and characters to shoot a few additional scenes for a show that already left him feeling disgruntled. His decision proved to be wise, though it leaves us pondering what those extra sequences might have been.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Thinks Alicia & Jason Got Their Happily Ever After

Morgan Chooses To Believe Jason And Alicia Found One Another

Without any concrete information available, fans are left to speculate about the fate of Jason and Alicia. Yet, if you heed the words of Jeffrey Dean Morgan, it seems they might have had a positive outcome. In fact, Morgan himself believes that things turned out well for this couple. He stated this openly.

In a scenario where Alicia was searching for Jason, perhaps leading her to chase him through the hallway, spotting his shadow, and giving chase until she collides with Diane, attempting to contact him via phone – it seems plausible to me that Jason would answer the call and come to collect Alicia. That’s always been my assumption. I wish I could have witnessed such a moment, but who can say for certain?

It seems most plausible for Morgan that characters Jason and Alicia might end up as a couple in the series The Good Wife. While the final episode doesn’t definitively show them together, it certainly doesn’t rule out the possibility. Alicia pursuing Jason could be enough to suggest they will eventually be together. The series feels more satisfying if Alicia and Jason end up together, and while the ending is left open-ended, ambiguity allows for different interpretations – you can envision their potential reunion as you prefer.
