Joey King in Talks to Join Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman in ‘Practical Magic 2’ (Exclusive)

Joey King is currently discussing potential roles for a film titled “Practical Magic 2“, which is a sequel to the 1998 movie of the same name, produced by Warner Bros., and she may star alongside Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

Director Susanne Bier, known for her work with Bullock in the post-apocalyptic thriller ‘Bird Box’ and Kidman in the gritty Netflix series ‘The Perfect Couple’, is set to lead the production that is slated for a September 18, 2026 release.

In the new version, Bullock and Kidman will once again play their characters Sally and Gillian Owens, the witch sisters from the original film. Their story revolves around a family curse that tragically ends relationships with the men they care about. This movie was adapted from Alice Hoffman’s novel and skillfully balanced themes of sisterhood, female empowerment, domestic abuse, humor, and supernatural elements.

Bullock and Kidman are returning to their roles as witch sisters Sally and Gillian Owens in the upcoming film. They face a family curse that results in the demise of the men they become romantically involved with. The story is based on Alice Hoffman’s novel, combining themes such as sisterhood, female empowerment, domestic abuse, and a mix of comedy and supernatural adventures.

In a rephrased manner, you could say: The character King is set to portray one of Nicole Kidman’s daughters who uncovers deep-rooted family mysteries and her hidden abilities, leading the family towards a turmoil.

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Akiva Goldman, who collaborated on the initial film, joined forces with Georgia Pritchett to pen this new chapter’s script. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are also contributing as producers, alongside Denise Di Novi from the original production.

A late summer shoot in London, where Warners shoots many of its movies, is being planned.

Warners had no comment on the dealmaking.

The young actress gained widespread recognition among Generation Z, particularly for her role as a teenage girl caught between two love interests in the popular Netflix series “Kissing Booth”. Her performance in the Hulu crime drama “The Act” earned her an Emmy, and she has since taken on leading roles in films such as “The Princess” by 20th Century Studios and alongside Brad Pitt in “Bullet Train”. Most recently, she appeared in the Netflix science fiction film “Uglies”, directed by McG.

King is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
