It turns out that Tom Holland is not included in the cast for “Avengers: Doomsday,” and knowing his preferred team-up for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga only intensifies my disappointment over the absence of Spider-Man. Although he didn’t initially appear in the first two Avengers films within the MCU, Holland’s character Peter Parker made a significant impact during “Avengers: Infinity War.” He was also present in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” delivering some thrilling action sequences and poignant emotional scenes centered on his bond with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. I had honestly assumed that Spider-Man would definitely be part of the cast for “Avengers: Doomsday.
Initially, during Marvel’s live stream of the movie’s cast reveal, Tom Holland’s name was missing. Since Spider-Man had a strong bond with Downey’s Iron Man and Robert Downey Jr. is set to reappear as Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers films, I assumed that Marvel would leverage their shared past. Although it’s possible that Spider-Man might join the cast later, his omission from the lineup at the moment has left me feeling disappointed. With Holland expressing his interest in an MCU team-up, this absence feels even more troubling.
Tom Holland Has Revealed The Multiverse Saga Hero He Wants To Team Up With
The MCU Has Introduced Several Heroes In The Last Few Years
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga has introduced numerous new characters to the franchise since Phase 4 began. This expansion was facilitated by the production of Marvel Studios series on Disney+, as well as incorporating multiple post-credits character appearances and more in MCU movies. However, many of these characters have either been isolated from other MCU characters for years or have recently interacted with them for the first time. Since 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has been absent for four years and is expected to reappear in 2026.
It can be interpreted that Spider-Man has not engaged in any interactions with the freshly introduced MCU heroes during the Multiverse Saga. Originally, America Chavez, who made her first appearance in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” was intended to appear in the third Spider-Man film. However, this did not materialize. Despite his lengthy absence, Tom Holland, during the press tour for “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in 2021, expressed his desire to collaborate with Florence Pugh’s character Yelena Belova, who was introduced in the MCU during the Multiverse Saga.
When asked about which Marvel Cinatic Universe (MCU) newcomers he’d like to collaborate with, Holland expressed his desire to work with Florence Pugh. He thinks she’s fantastic and praised her performance in the film “Black Widow” as well as all her other movies. He even suggested a cool idea for a Spider-Man and Black Widow movie. At that time, Pugh had only worked alongside Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff in the MCU’s “Black Widow,” with the actress also making her MCU TV debut around the release of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” through Disney+’s “Hawkeye.” I too would love to see a Spider-Man and Black Widow team-up.
Thunderbolts* Set Up Yelena Belova For A Major Avengers: Doomsday Role
Florence Pugh’s Marvel Character Is Now On A Higher Shelf In The MCU
Given Tom Holland’s Spider-Man concluded his trilogy and there haven’t been many chances for him to appear in the MCU since, it makes sense that their first encounter with Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, would have taken place in Avengers: Doomsday. At first, I wasn’t sure about what part Yelena could play in this film. However, it appears that Spider-Man will be a significant character in the upcoming Avengers movie following the formation of the Thunderbolts team.
2025 saw a significant shift for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the second film of the year, titled “Thunderbolts”, unfolded. The climactic ending of this movie led to Valentina Allegra de Fontaine rebranding the team, effectively making the Thunderbolts the MCU’s new equivalent of the Avengers. Following this, the post-credits scene of “Thunderbolts” was intriguing. In the MCU film, Yelena Belova emerged as a potential leader, consistently demonstrating her strong leadership abilities and fearless personality. With two teams claiming the Avengers title in the franchise – Yelena’s New Avengers and Sam Wilson’s team – it’s expected that Yelena’s role in “Avengers: Doomsday” will be crucial.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Could Still Appear In Avengers: Doomsday
The Next Avengers Movie Is Still Keeping Many Secrets
It appears that the role for Yelena Belova resembles the kind of involvement I anticipated for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in “Avengers: Doomsday.” However, it was revealed that Tom Holland was not among the Marvel actors set to star in “Avengers: Doomsday.” Initially, this came as a surprise, but upon reflection, it seems plausible. This is because “Spider-Man: No Way Home” concluded with a strong foundation for a more personal, smaller-scale, street-level story in the next Spider-Man movie. Consequently, I believe that Tom Holland reprising his role in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” fits well with this narrative direction.

Avengers: Infinity War | 2018 |

Avengers: Secret Wars | 2027 |
Though my anticipation for Spider-Man appearing in the upcoming Avengers film, given the absence of Iron Man and Captain America as portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans respectively, has not waned. Interestingly, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has hinted that the cast list for Avengers: Doomsday is larger than initially disclosed. It’s unclear if this implies another live-stream event to reveal the remaining actors or if Marvel plans to keep those names under wraps. Considering the circumstances, my speculation leans towards Spider-Man being one of the undisclosed characters.
Why I Want To See Spider-Man And Yelena Belova Team Up In The MCU
Tom Holland’s Desired Marvel Team-Up Is Perfect For Both Characters
If Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, appears in Avengers: Doomsday, it seems likely that this film could provide an ideal opportunity for the MCU’s Spidey and the new Black Widow (Yelena Belova) to cross paths. However, if Holland doesn’t appear in Avengers: Doomsday, there’s always the possibility of them meeting in another future Marvel Cinematic Universe film such as 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars or another feature. I believe there’s potential for a team-up between Peter Parker and Yelena Belova, given their similar personalities and comedic flair.
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but imagine the thrilling spectacle of Yelena and Peter teaming up on screen, given their shared prowess in acrobatic combat. Beyond their striking similarities in action sequences, I believe there’s a profound emotional bond between them that stems from their shared losses.
Yelena, who lost her sister and spent her childhood in the Red Room, has endured more than most. Similarly, Peter has suffered the heartbreaking loss of many loved ones, only to be forgotten by the world that once knew him. The weight of their trauma is palpable, yet I sense a mutual understanding and support that could help them heal.
If Avengers: Doomsday were to delve into this aspect, it would undoubtedly offer an enriching and emotionally resonant experience for fans like me.
