Dwayne Johnson has been chosen to play a motivational speaker in an upcoming psychological thriller from A24 titled “Breakthrough.” Prior to this role, he’s also appearing in another A24 film called “The Smashing Machine,” where he portrays the former wrestler and MMA fighter Mark Kerr. This movie tells the story of his journey to fame during the brutal era of the UFC, only to face struggles with substance abuse. Written and directed by Benny Safdie, “The Smashing Machine” is scheduled for release in October. However, before that, Johnson will already be starring in yet another A24 film.
As reported by Deadline, Dwayne Johnson appears to be working again with A24 on a psychological thriller named Breakthrough. This story is situated in Southern California towards the end of the 1900s and revolves around a young man who has lost faith in life, becoming entangled in the influence of an enigmatic self-help guru. Although this charismatic figure attracts people with his compelling personality, he conceals questionable ethical methods and a sinister, hidden side.
As a film enthusiast, I’m excited to share that I’ll be stepping into the shoes of a motivational guru in an upcoming psychological thriller, taking on a supporting role. The search for the lead character and other key roles is still ongoing. This gripping tale is the brainchild of Zeke Goodman, an up-and-coming talent in the industry, though we’re yet to secure a director for this project.
