Amy Poehler Shocks Fans with Trailer for Hilarious ‘Parks and Rec’ Spin-Off ‘Philly Justice’!

The show “Parks and Recreation” was famous for its quick, zany humor and endearing characters, as viewers followed the employees of Pawnee’s Parks and Recreation department through seven seasons. Just like other popular sitcoms, it boasted some big-name guest stars. However, unlike shows like “Community,” “Parks & Rec” seldom delved into self-referential humor. But star Amy Poehler, who played the character Leslie Knope with unwavering optimism, recently disclosed that while filming “Parks and Recreation” on NBC, the cast secretly filmed another TV series as well. The first trailer for this hidden project has now been released online.

Actors often come up with their own amusement while working on movie or TV sets for extended periods. However, it’s uncommon for them to generate an entirely new TV series from scratch. The fictional show “Philly Justice” was one such creation that Amy Poehler, Adam Scott, Rashida Jones, and Kathryn Hahn concocted spontaneously during a photo shoot on set. In a previous episode of her podcast “Good Hang,” with Kathryn Hahn as the guest, Poehler explained that they pretended to be part of a fake ’90s or early 2000s TV show called “Philly Justice” and struck poses by crossing their arms.

Previously unseen, the fictional series titled “Philly Justice” was just confirmed by Amy Poehler and Rashida Hahn after it was secretly filmed during breaks in Season 4 of Parks & Rec. For years, this show had only been a whisper among avid Parks & Rec fans, but now we have actual evidence thanks to Poehler and Hahn. In the latest podcast episode featuring Mike Schur, the creator of Parks & Rec, they premiered the trailer for Philly Justice… and it’s magnificent! The trailer mimics every popular legal drama you can think of (like Suits), and even features a guest appearance by none other than Ron Swanson, played by Nick Offerman. You can listen to the full podcast episode with the trailer below (the trailer starts at 1 hour 8 minutes and 21 seconds).

Will ‘Parks & Rec’ Ever Get a Reboot/Revival?

Just as many beloved shows from the past have sparked discussions about their potential comeback, some enthusiasts of “Parks & Rec” are advocating for a revival, with the original cast returning for another round of humorous antics in local administration. Given that “The Office” has spawned numerous reinterpretations, one might wonder why its spiritual successor can’t undergo the same process. However, it’s worth noting that such a revival/reboot has already transpired.

At the peak of the COVID-19 outbreak, the main cast of “Parks & Recreation” – featuring Chris Pratt, Rob Lowe, Retta, Aziz Ansari, and Aubrey Plaza – joined together for a special episode centered around the pandemic. This unique episode was set on Zoom and explored what happened to their characters following the series finale and during the global health crisis.

Although the teaser for “Philly Justice” has recently been made public, viewers are eagerly anticipating the full series. Regrettably, currently there are no arrangements in place for the series to air on any platform, such as NBC. Here’s hoping that either the network or one of the show’s actors might consider sharing the series online.
