Mubi Snaps Up Another Notable Cannes Title ‘Sound of Falling’ In Dealmaking Streak

The North American, UK, Irish, Indian, and Turkish rights to German director Mascha Schilinski’s second film, titled “Sound of Falling” or “In Die Sonne Schauen“, have been purchased by Mubi for distribution.

The acquisition of the rights follows an intense bidding process following the world debut at Cannes Film Festival, as stated by the movie’s producer. Moreover, Mubi has been on a winning streak at Cannes, securing distribution rights in specific markets for “The Secret Agent” by Kleber Mendonça Filho, “Sentimental Value”, Joachim Trier’s new film, and “Die My Love”, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, for $24 million.

In the previous year, Mubi secured the film “The Substance” during Cannes, setting the stage for an Academy Award campaign for Coralie Fargeat’s body horror thriller.

As a film enthusiast, I can confidently say that Mubi is my go-to place for all things cinema. It’s like a treasure trove where masterpieces from the art house scene share space with fresh, exciting films, and hidden cinematic jewels that would otherwise slip through my fingers. I’m thrilled to announce that Sound of Falling has now joined Mubi’s esteemed movie family, making it even more enticing for cinephiles like myself.

Mubi hasn’t revealed when they plan to showcase the movie depicting four generations of young women residing on a farmhouse in northeastern Germany. Over time, as the house changes throughout a century, remnants of the past resonate within its walls, and the lives of these women start to resemble each other.

The movie titled “Falling Stars” features Hanna Heckt, Lena Urzendowsky, Susanne Wuest, and Luise Heyer. This film was jointly penned by Schilinski and Louise Peter, and brought to you by Maren Schmitt, Lucas Schmidt, and Lasse Scharpen of Studio Zentral.

In his review for “Sound of Falling” at Cannes, The Hollywood Reporter‘s critic Jordan Mintzer described the movie as an enthralling account that intertwines the lives of four young women into a single, extended cinematic ballad. The narrative leaps across various time periods unexpectedly, offering a canvas of evolving womanhood and rural conflict spanning generations.

International distribution for the movie is being managed by Mk2 Films. Notably, Schilinski, who debuted with his first feature film titled “Dark Blue Girl” (Die Tochter) at Berlin in 2017, is associated with Talent Republic Agency/Patricia Barona.
