Renowned actress Sydney Sweeney has a significant blemish on an otherwise impressive Hollywood career due to a critically panned superhero movie titled “The Disaster.” Although her Marvel debut didn’t yield the success she anticipated, Sweeney acknowledges that she enjoyed working on the film and being part of it to satisfy her family.
Reflecting back on our collaboration, Sweeney warmly reminisced about her experience on Madame Web. She admitted that while the film may not have had a favorable reputation, she enjoyed being part of its production because it provided her with increased visibility.
She expressed that it’s delightful to contribute to something greater than oneself. At the time, she hadn’t worked on a studio film before, but she had established her production company [Fifty-Fifty Films]. She had projects she was eager to share with studios, and she needed to boost her reputation within the studio system to make these properties more valuable.
In her own words, the star of Euphoria shared that she wanted to do a role where her younger cousins could watch too. She mentioned having many teenage cousins who don’t quite grasp what she does for a living. Excited about the idea, she chose to be Spider-Woman in Madame Web, hoping they would find it entertaining and cool.
Unfortunately for Sweeney, the fourth movie in the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU), titled Madame Web, didn’t fare well with both critics and viewers, earning a dismal 11% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – making it her least successful film to date. Despite the unfavorable reviews, Sweeney remains upbeat about the movie. ” frankly, I had a fantastic time working on it, so that’s what truly matters to me. I believe that if you are having fun while doing your work, then the final outcome – whether it’s box office success or not – doesn’t really matter. Of course, we all want the film to be well-received, adored, and successful, because then everyone benefits,” she expressed.

The portrayal of Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a character with psychic abilities, in the title role of “Madame Web” was met with poor reviews, making it the least favorably received movie from an SSU that hasn’t produced a critical success yet. Alongside Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, and Adam Scott, “Madame Web” struggled to recoup its $100 million budget, effectively cancelling plans for a sequel. Despite this financial setback, the film found some redemption in…
Sweeney has been transparent about the reasons she chose to work on the film, ‘Madame Web,’ as she joined forces to foster connections with Sony’s executive team. Moreover, she has consistently shown appreciation for her Marvel debut in various interviews.
Sweeney remains a consistent presence in Hollywood, with numerous projects on the horizon. Some of her upcoming cinema releases include an as-yet-unnamed biopic focusing on legendary boxer Christy Martin, a movie adaptation titled “I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl“, inspired by a Reddit short story, and her chilling thriller,
