The “Final Destination” film series is known for its gruesome and grisly deaths, and it doesn’t hesitate to stick to its own dark mythology. If you manage to evade death when it’s supposed to happen, don’t think you’re safe – death will eventually catch up to you in the order that was originally intended. These movies often depict deaths in a way that would impress Rube Goldberg. For instance, falling flat-faced onto a pitchfork after being startled by a mouse that emerged from hiding due to a rattling corn cob stirred by an enigmatic north wind – this is exactly the kind of death you’d expect from the “Final Destination” series. The franchise not only plays with irony, but also believes in meting out justice poetically.
As a die-hard fan, I can say that the introduction of “Final Destination: Bloodlines” has turned the series on its head! Rewatching the movies now, everything feels so different. You see why Death is always so agitated whenever these characters manage to dodge their fate. With an even more intricate plot unfolding, let’s dive into the wild, emotional, and occasionally heartwarming journey that is the “Final Destination” timeline.
The 1969 Skyview disaster is averted
1969 finds Iris Campbell (Brec Bassinger), a young pregnant woman, out for an evening with her boyfriend Paul (Max Lloyd-Jones) at the trendy Skyview eatery. Both are on edge; Paul because he intends to propose, Iris because she’s yet to reveal her pregnancy fearing his rejection. Despite its Space Needle-like height and design, what flashes through Iris’ mind isn’t a savory steak tartare, but rather a shard from the crystal chandelier plummeting to the floor, shattering into pieces. A chain of events unfolds, eventually leading to a gas leak igniting, causing a devastating explosion within the restaurant, resulting in gruesome fatalities for all present.
Instead of many who will follow, when Iris abruptly stands up and commands everyone to depart immediately – suppressing the factors that triggered a series of fatalities nearby – people obey and exit with her towards the door. In doing so, she silently protects numerous lives. However, those individuals should have perished, not surviving and propagating offspring. The film doesn’t offer an answer as to why individuals like Iris are saddled with such visions – a point of contention in the “Final Destination” series if there was one – but for Iris, the influence on her life is substantial and enduring.
1969-2000: Iris Campbell’s paranoia puts a strain on her family
In a reasonable response, Iris transforms into a cautious and mistrustful spouse and parent. Upon learning that Paul is overjoyed about her pregnancy and they decide to wed, their offspring, Howard (portrayed by Alex Zahara) and Darlene (Rya Kihlstedt), grow increasingly defiant towards Iris’s escalating rules and apprehensions. Following Paul’s heart attack-related demise, Iris spirals into a belief that death is deliberately targeting and claiming the lives of everyone who survived due to the Skyview explosion not being an actual event. She further believes that this sinister force is pursuing each descendant – from grandchildren to great-grandchildren – of those who were affected. To combat this perceived threat, Iris embarks on a quest to monitor every individual who managed to escape the restaurant due to her actions and keep tabs on their subsequent experiences following that fateful night.
She pens a book detailing the repercussions of an echo effect she’s instigated, then secludes herself in a cabin reminiscent of Alex Browning’s future hideout. Her aim is to stave off death from encroaching upon her family. Regrettably, her actions push Darlene away from her grandchildren and from Iris and Paul, creating a rift within the clan that leads to decades of intergenerational turmoil. However, Iris sees her actions as necessary. As long as she survives, she believes she can shield her family from death in the sequence of their birth. Yet by 2025, she’s gravely ill and understands that her family’s time on Earth is limited.
1969-2000: William Bludworth was at the Skyview
In the “Final Destination” series at Skyview, it’s not just Iris who plays a crucial role. Also present are William Bludworth (Jayden Oniah) and his mother Evie (Natasha Burnett). When Iris confides in Evie that she’s pregnant out of wedlock, unbeknownst to her, Paul intends to propose. Worried he might reject her, Evie urges William to be quiet while she works. This he follows until the explosion occurs. In a selfless act, Evie shoves William into a storage room to save him, but she meets a tragic end herself. Iris then shields William until her own demise.
This paragraph conveys the same information as the original, but with a more conversational and easy-to-understand tone.
In essence, Iris prevents a particular future from occurring, yet William, portrayed by Tony Todd, is continually tormented by death throughout his life. As an adult, he dedicates his career to the macabre, working at Bludworth Funeral Homes and serving as a coroner. Moreover, he offers advice that can be both beneficial and ominous to those who encounter death within the series. This is because William communicates with Iris in an attempt to find ways to conquer death and establish its rules. By 2025, it is revealed that William also suffers from a terminal illness. He informs the Reyes family that he anticipates passing away after they all do, as he was the last to die in Iris’ vision, but encourages them to seize life fully.
2000: The North Bay Bridge Disaster happens
In the thrilling world of “Final Destination,” I find myself drawn to the heart-wrenching tale of the North Bay Bridge Disaster in “Final Destination 5.” Although it’s the fifth instalment in the series chronologically, it marks the first catastrophe linked to the Skyview curse that claimed countless lives.
In a fateful turn of events, I found myself on a bus with my coworkers, en route to a work retreat. The North Bay Bridge, still under construction and battered by high winds, gave way beneath us. The bridge’s collapse was a tragic end for all my colleagues and me. However, in a twist of fate, my panicked instincts saved seven of us from the fiery or watery demise that had been foretold. Yet, the bridge came crashing down, taking 86 lives along with it, including mine.
The issue is, just as Alex Browning did previously, the FBI now suspects Sam has carried out a terrorist act. However, he somehow avoids these charges. But soon after, his friends start to meet untimely ends one by one. And the first death occurs under such an extraordinary and bizarre circumstance that it’s become something of a legendary incident among fans of “Final Destination.
Candice can’t keep the balance
As a gamer, I can’t forget the haunting scene where poor Candice met her grisly end. At first, everything seemed fine, her gymnastics routine was flawless, and she nailed the dismount effortlessly. But then, disaster struck. Another gymnast stepped on a nail, lost balance, and tumbled off the beam with a pained yelp. The fall caused a bowl of chalk to spill onto a fan. In the midst of this chaos, Candice took an accidental dose of chalk mid-routine, sending her tumbling back from the parallel bars in a horrific snap, shattering herself like a virtual character in a tragic game glitch.
This scene showcases an exceptional instance of the chain-reaction destruction characteristic of the series. Moreover, it significantly upsets Peter (Miles Fisher), who becomes enraged when he discovers that one can steal another’s lifespan by taking their life. Consequently, Peter seeks revenge on Sam and his former girlfriend Molly (Emma Bell). He’s resentful because in Sam’s vision, Molly survives the crash regardless of what transpires, and he aims to steal her lifespan out of jealousy. Ultimately, Peter meets his end, allowing Sam and Molly to enjoy their lives for a while — at least temporarily.
Sam and Molly die on Volée Airlines Flight 180 with Alex Browning’s classmates
As a gamer, I can’t help but share my personal experience: Sam and I booked a flight with Volée Airlines Flight 180 for our long-awaited getaway to France. But little did we know, this trip was about to turn into a nightmare. Before takeoff, Alex, a fellow passenger, got into a heated argument with the flight attendants, causing quite a scene. I could sense something was amiss, and deep down, I felt our lives were in danger.
Unfortunately, my intuition proved correct as we met an untimely end, engulfed in flames high above New York City. At least we didn’t have to face the afterlife alone.
In a tragic turn of events for Sam, Nathan Sears (Arlen Escarpeta), once Sam’s fortunate colleague, meets his untimely demise in a bar, struck by debris from a falling plane. This occurs shortly after Nathan learns that the man he had previously murdered, who was believed to have an extended lifespan, suffered a brain aneurysm and could have perished at any moment. With this heartbreaking conclusion, Sam’s story — as well as the narrative of “Final Destination 5” — comes to an end, paving the way for Alex’s tale to unfold.
Alex Browning escapes Volée Airlines Flight 180
In the film “Final Destination,” Alex Browning experiences a bewildering ordeal as he foresees Volée Airlines Flight 180 exploding mid-air, taking down his entire class. In the ensuing chaos, he manages to rescue a few individuals and one of his teachers. Shocked by the reality of his vision, he watches as the plane explodes over New York City’s skyline, claiming the lives of about 287 people. However, death doesn’t simply stand aside and let Alex off the hook for his inadvertent manipulations. One by one, his acquaintances, adversaries, and even that unlucky teacher meet their untimely ends in bizarre and alarming circumstances.
Without hesitation, Alex refuses to accept death passively. He swiftly finds the seating arrangement for the plane and deduces that people are dying based on the order they passed away in his vision. Utilizing this information, he attempts to safeguard others and himself, pushing himself to the brink of insanity. Similarly to Iris, he isolates himself in a cabin to prevent himself from being death’s unwitting accomplice. Regrettably, he fails to save everyone – including one classmate, Terry Chaney (Amanda Detmer), who meets an unforgettably tragic end despite Alex’s valiant efforts.
Terry meets truck
Among the most shocking deaths ever depicted in horror movies is that of Terry, who was mid-argument with Alex about his supposed mumbo jumbo, only to be tragically run over by a swiftly approaching bus. This sudden, shocking demise has been revisited several times within the franchise – notably in “The Final Destination” featuring George (Mykelti Williamson), but also in “Final Destination 5” where Julia (Anna Lore) meets her untimely end.
In movie theaters, it left audiences utterly entertained. The final cut of the scene includes extended pauses to accommodate audience reactions such as laughter and gasps, rather than rushing to the next scene, which could confuse viewers or cause them to miss dialogue. The unexpected nature of the scene, stemming from a common oversight like failing to look both ways before crossing the street, heightens its impact.
It appears that Alex’s group faces a lot of danger from vehicles: Terry dies, Clear Rivers (Ali Larter) narrowly escapes death in her car, Billy (Seann William Scott) is killed by shrapnel after a train hits Carter’s (Kerr Smith) car, which he was trying to destroy on the tracks. In the end, only Carter, Clear, and Alex survive and decide to pay tribute to their fallen comrades in Paris.
Paris is the city of lights out for Carter
Six joyful months after what felt like brushing death aside, Carter, Clear, and I find ourselves in the city of love for a well-deserved vacation. However, our happiness is short-lived as we soon realize that death is relentlessly pursuing us despite our best attempts to evade it. Intriguing signs suggest that death’s appetite for our souls remains insatiable. As we enjoy an evening meal at a charming Parisian café, a parking sign miraculously flies into a neon advertisement, causing it to whirl dangerously towards the patrons. In a split second, I manage to save Alex from harm, but he quickly deduces that death has skipped him once more. Desperate and fearful, I inquire who’s next on its list. Tragically, it turns out to be me – and I meet my end when the falling sign returns to claim my life.
As Alex and Clear return to America, they undergo a drastic transformation for the worse. In an unseen sequence, Alex is later killed by a falling brick – a particularly humiliating demise for a primary character in the “Final Destination” series, given that it occurs between films. This leaves Clear as the lone survivor of Volée Airlines Flight 180. However, she won’t stay alone for long, as she encounters a fresh group of accident survivors from an entirely different catastrophe, who are determined to outsmart death.
2003: The U.S. Route 23 crash occurs
In 2003’s “Final Destination 2,” actress A.J. Cook, portraying Kimberly Corman, plays a crucial role. An unexpected turn of events spares her and a group of others from a horrific crash on U.S. Route 23, an accident caused by a logging truck losing its cargo, scattering deadly debris across the highway. The ensuing pile-up claims the lives of 19 individuals, regardless of age or gender, in a violent demonstration of death’s power. Kimberly’s survival, seemingly against all odds, sets the stage for an unforeseen twist in the “Final Destination” series. However, with guidance from William Bludworth, she acquires knowledge that will forever alter the fate of this universe.
In the preceding film of the series, it seemed as though everyone’s fate was sealed, with death inevitable regardless of actions or spiritual standing. However, in this installment, characters like Kimberly find a loophole: by taking a life, they can extend their lifespan. Alternatively, they may create a new life through birth or saving another person, thereby changing the sequence of lives. There’s also a more enigmatic option involving self-sacrifice, followed by a temporary death and resuscitation, reminiscent of “Flatliners.” This glimmer of hope sets Kimberly on a chaotic path as she struggles to outwit Death, who relentlessly pursues her to the very end.
Clear meets her fate
When faced with difficulties, Kimberly seeks out Clear Rivers, the one person who truly empathizes with her predicament due to Clear’s own history of inexplicable deaths. Initially resistant to involvement or aid, Clear recognizes that her survival could be prolonged if she listens to Kimberly. They form an alliance and their pursuit takes them to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, during this mission, Clear meets an untimely end in an explosion.
From my gaming perspective, that final scene shuts down the lives of the characters from the first film, but don’t worry, Clear exits with quite a bang, leaving room for Kimberly and her new ally, Thomas Burke (played by Michael Landes), to continue their journey. Interestingly, Kimberly’s survival in this franchise serves as a milestone, creating a notable case within the “Final Destination” universe – one that even gets referenced in “Final Destination 4.
Kimberly cheats death – successfully?
Kimberly makes history by defying death completely and naturally. But how does she achieve this? By choosing to end her own life. In an attempt to halt the seemingly unstoppable cycle of loss among her loved ones, she deliberately crashes her car into a lake, hoping to offer death a fresh start that will put a stop to the relentless series of tragedies befalling her friends.
It’s fortunate that her bet turned out successful, and it certainly did so. Remarkably, Kimberly held her breath for a sufficient time to halt her heartbeat. Briefly deceased, she was resuscitated by Dr. Ellen Kalarjian (Enid-Raye Adams), who Kimberly had mistakenly thought was attempting to harm crash survivor Isabella (Justina Machado).
Bloodlines,” as she stands out as an exceptional case that defies the usual rules of death.
2006: The Devil’s Flight roller coaster accident
The impending tragedy scheduled for Death’s list of events is the malfunctioning of the Devil’s Flight roller coaster at the neighborhood amusement park, resulting in a tragic loss of life as delighted attendees meet an untimely end. A car on the coaster comes off its track, causing several riders to plummet into the darkness, meeting their fate either on the tracks or below on the ground. This harrowing experience is witnessed by Wendy Christensen, a senior at McKinley High School who prides herself on her need for control, but finds her desires tested by the specter of death.
Wendy’s foresight prevents a tragic, violent end for herself on the Devil’s Flight rollercoaster, also safeguarding those in the car with her. However, seven individuals lose their lives, including her boyfriend Jason, and death persistently pursues everyone who was initially planning to ride Devil’s Flight due to Wendy’s initial scare.
Alongside her, Wendy is supported by her high school friend-turned-foe, Kevin Fischer (Ryan Merriman), who is also a survivor. Both of them are grappling with the grief of not being able to save their loved ones, a guilt that refuses to lift. However, they are resolute on making amends for the terror they’ve experienced since exiting the roller coaster. They possess an innovative tactic that could potentially give them an advantage over death in a remarkably distinct manner.
A picture says a thousand words
In “Final Destination 3,” the photos taken by Wendy, the photographer, during senior night at the amusement park offer a glimpse into how each of her classmates will meet their untimely demise – a unique concept not seen in any other “Final Destination” movie. While all films in the series include hidden references, visual hints, and connections to previous movies, the photographic signs that Wendy discovers are an unprecedented gift from fate, unlike anything anyone else has encountered before.
The hints span from subtle, such as Wendy’s sister Julie (Amanda Crew) standing before a harrow, which later nearly impales her, to obvious, like Kevin getting blinded by Wendy’s flash and recognizing he’s destined for a fireworks explosion death. This method isn’t polished, and it certainly isn’t flawless, but it provides a significant edge over most characters when dealing with death. However, despite this advantage, Wendy fails to save several lives, including a duo of best friends who meet their end in ways that are hard to forget.
This double death gives new meaning to a sick burn
Ashley Freund (portrayed by Chelan Simmons) and Ashlyn Halperin (played by Crystal Lowe) set themselves apart from Wendy’s group of friends due to their excessive fascination with slush and the valley girl stereotype. They dismiss Wendy’s visions as insignificant, considering themselves superior to everyone else in the room. This is evident through their actions such as mocking Britney Spears and Celine Dion CDs at their local tanning salon and looking down on their peers. Their arrogance eventually leads to them being metaphorically ‘burned’ in multiple ways, as their deaths are particularly fiery.
Ashley and Ashlyn move forward after the traumatic event known as Devil’s Flight, which includes sunbathing, enjoying upbeat music, and unfortunately being the initial characters to encounter their demise in “Final Destination 3”. Their untimely end comes when they are engulfed in flames within their tanning beds, accompanied by the melodious Ohio Players’ track, “Rollercoaster of Love”. This scene is particularly noteworthy in the series, as it swiftly transitions from the flaming tanning beds to their side-by-side caskets resting in a graveyard, awaiting burial.
The deaths are particularly gruesome, involving broken glass, peeling skin, and leaving viewers startled out of their comfort zone. They resemble the infamous deaths in “Final Destination,” but they certainly get the job done. These fiercely burnt cheerleaders spark Wendy and Kevin’s journey to rescue everyone who survived the accident – a task that, as usual, won’t be easy.
Death does not spare Wendy
Despite all her hard work and intelligence, Wendy can’t escape her fate, and ultimately, death doesn’t save her either. She manages to live through life in McKinley and even make it to college, but New York City proves to be too much for her – both figuratively and literally. One fateful day, while traveling on the subway with her new college companions, Wendy encounters her own sibling – and Kevin, who happened to be visiting at the time.
Immediately, another vision appears to her – a tragic scene of a train wreck, claiming the lives of her three companions and several other unfortunate passengers who happened to be in their train compartment. Now, she’s certain that her time will come last among them – there seems to be no escape from this impending fate. A solitary tear glides down her cheek as she grapples with the chilling reality of the situation.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but reflect on Wendy, who, like the protagonists of “Final Destination,” met her end in an unfortunate manner. Yet, her demise has paved the way for intriguing developments within the series, thanks to her ability to capture precognitive photographs that reveal potential dangers before they occur. Alas, this innovative concept hasn’t been revisited since Wendy’s time, and I can only imagine how useful it might have been for Nick O’Bannen (Bobby Campo) when he faced a fateful car incident back in 2009.
2009: the McKinley Speedway crash
In a brief respite, Death prepares for another calamity – this time, a high-speed collision at a race in 2009’s “The Final Destination”. Characters Nick, Lori (played by Shantel VanSanten), Hunt (Nick Zano), and Janet (Haley Webb) miraculously survive the wreckage thanks to Nick’s premonition. The aftermath is gruesome and was loosely based on the tragic Le Mans accident. Despite managing to escape the initial catastrophe, Death quickly comes knocking again due to Nick’s ill-fated decisions. One by one, his acquaintances meet their end, and the gap between life and death for Nick grows increasingly narrow.
)
Before unleashing another tragedy, Death takes a brief pause – this time manifesting as a high-speed crash in the 3D movie “The Final Destination” (2009). Characters including Nick, Lori (Shantel VanSanten), Hunt (Nick Zano), and Janet (Haley Webb) survive the wreckage only because of Nick’s premonition. The incident is grim, drawing inspiration from the horrific real-life Le Mans disaster. Although Nick manages to avoid the initial disaster, Death swiftly comes calling again due to his poor choices. One by one, his friends start dying, and the distance between life and death for Nick decreases.
The crash at McKinley Speedway tragically claims 52 lives and leaves quite a mess behind, yet death seems to always be drawn towards its prize – the survivors who managed to escape thanks to Nick’s unfortunate foresight, similar to Wendy before him. However, much like Wendy, Nick has another hidden talent that he hopes will tip the scales in their favor. Remarkably, this plan does work, if only for a brief moment in time.
The past helps prepare Nick for the future
In “Final Destination 3”, Kevin relies on the internet instead of newspaper articles, whereas Nick skillfully blends his recollections, visions, and online research to counteract death’s plans in a distinctive manner in “The Final Destination”. This is quite different from Alex using seating charts or Iris who was surrounded by charts and binders. He can delve into centuries of history with just one key stroke, which he uses to ensure the safety of those around him. Clear Rivers only wishes she had such aid at her disposal.
In the universe of “Final Destination,” technology isn’t exceptionally sophisticated; instead, devices like cars, computers, and other technological items often malfunction, break down, or fail in gruesome ways to fulfill their dark purpose. However, the internet has become a more practical resource for characters in these films, although it doesn’t ensure survival by any means. Technology also plays a sinister role in the demise of one of Nick’s friends in “The Final Destination.
Death by pool suction
Without a doubt, Hunt’s demise in “The Final Destination” is one of the most gruesome deaths, perhaps even among all series installments. As a lifeguard at a private pool, he plunges to the depths searching for his lucky coin, but instead, he gets trapped by the pool drain. Trapped and powerless, the pool pump violently pulls out his internal organs, leaving his body drained and disfigured, with his remains being sprayed onto the pool deck in a grotesque, blood-soaked mess.
Although enhanced by Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI), since the scene was shot in a public pool where real blood couldn’t be used, it leaves a lasting impression due to its graphic nature. It’s also a particularly gruesome way for even a minor character like Hunt, who is primarily known for his constant horniness, to perish.
Although this movie could become notorious for having uninteresting characters and unengaging dialogue within the series, Hunt’s gruesome demise continues to cast a somber pall over the franchise as if it were a mourning veil.
The film may be infamous in the series for its lifeless characters and boring dialogues, but Hunt’s grim end remains a heavy cloud hanging over the franchise, like a mournful shroud.
Nick is the second to save hundreds with his vision
Instead of being typically noble as depicted in the “Final Destination” series, Nick displays a unique form of nobility because he’s the only character besides Iris who manages to save numerous people through his premonitions. Nick’s special ability allows him to foresee disasters like the local mall exploding due to construction. In this instance, his foresight prevents many cinema-goers and shoppers from meeting a tragic end. Unfortunately, in his vision, an escalator collapses and kills Lori, whom he is unable to save even though he knew about it in advance.
Here’s another instance illustrating the role of random chance and destiny in the “Final Destination” universe. Despite not saving many lives at the racetrack, Nick does prevent a mall catastrophe from happening. This might be considered fortunate in most other series, but here it simply means death is set to exact its revenge on him – which occurs when a truck crashes into a café where he’s meeting Janet and Lori, effectively ending any chances of more heroic actions for poor Nick.
No time for Bludworth
Among all the films in the series, “The Final Destination” stands out because it’s the one that doesn’t include Tony Todd in any capacity. Unlike “Final Destination 3,” which only uses Todd as a voice for the Devil’s Flight demon and later as a subway announator, “The Final Destination” has no part for him whatsoever.
Todd didn’t reveal the reason behind his absence from that particular “Final Destination” series, but during filming, he was a busy actor with multiple roles lined up and waiting to be filmed, such as a guest appearance on “Psych” and a recurring role in Roger Corman’s series “Splatter.” Despite missing out on this one installment, Todd reappeared in a significant way in “Final Destination: Bloodlines.
The Final Destinaton is a lot like Final Destination — with one exception
In many aspects, the movie “The Final Destination” bears a strong resemblance to “Final Destination.” This includes the recurring characters like the virtuous Nick and Alex, as well as Hunt and Billy who enjoy good times, or the three individuals who miraculously escape death’s grasp. However, despite attempting to create its unique identity, “The Final Destination” unfortunately fails to do so and seems to trip over its own feet instead.
In a striking divergence from the original “Final Destination”, the third installment of “The Final Destination” has a unique twist: all three main characters who initially survived meet their untimely end simultaneously at the film’s conclusion, whereas in “Final Destination”, Alex and Clear are spared for a while. This contrast offers an intriguing comparison – but what follows in the sequence of events in “Final Destination” is unlike anything fans had previously encountered.
2025: Stefani Reyes has a vision
The movie “Final Destination Bloodlines” stands apart because the character experiencing visions isn’t foreseeing her own future this time, but rather is destined to reenact another person’s past. Stefani Reyes, portrayed by Kaitlyn Santa Juana, finds herself recalling the Skyview disaster night and eventually needs to reach out to her estranged grandmother for information about the connection. At first, she might not trust Iris when her grandmother warns them of death approaching, but it’s difficult to dismiss such warnings once events start unfolding in a gruesome manner—with actual heads rolling.
Instead of another unique aspect, Stefani consistently endeavors to rescue is a relative, encompassing everyone she’s familiar with and holds dear, including second cousins or estranged parents. Unlike in typical “Final Destination” movies where the characters are usually strangers, this time it’s not the case. This unique twist undeniably introduces an additional layer of tension to the movie.
Stefani never develops visions of her own
In contrast to Iris, Stefani doesn’t have any personal visions about her own impending death. Whereas Iris is aware of what will happen to her and when, even finding comfort in it, Stefani remains unaware of any such events and must depend on the guidance of those who are more experienced to navigate the rules surrounding death.
In this story, death presents an especially challenging dilemma since it doesn’t always give its victims advance notice. Whether learning about one’s own demise and the fate of dear friends is a gift or a nightmare is debatable – it’s both a blessing and a curse in this series. Yet, Stefani finds herself in a situation where she has no say in the matter; she must embark on her journey as blindly as the audience does from the beginning to the end.
Iris is the series’ first successful suicide
In an unsettling first for “Bloodlines”, Iris takes her life in a chilling and deliberate act. To underscore the relentless specter of death within the family, she makes the decision to step outside and meet her end by being impaled through the eye socket with a weathervane. This is a rare double tragedy – not only does the victim choose their own demise, but they manage to carry out this act successfully.
Iris, unlike George and Alex who continually failed to die, seems to have met a premature end. It’s unclear whether death had grown tired of Iris or saw an opportunity with her guard down, but given her cunning nature, it might be that death seized the moment when Iris was vulnerable.
Bloodlines still takes place near McKinley
Just to clarify, if you were curious, the “Final Destination” series is primarily set in and around McKinley, Pennsylvania. Although the franchise has expanded its locations, reaching as far as France, a significant portion of the action unfolds within a single town. This is evident because many central institutions in each movie’s plot share the last name of the 21st U.S. president. For instance, in “Final Destination Bloodlines,” the Campbell-Reyes family visit a hospital that is identical to the one from “Final Destination 2” where Kimberly and her companions experienced their crisis.
As a devoted fan, I’d like to highlight the characters who face the most severe consequences due to the family’s decision to visit the hospital: Erik Campbell (Richard Harmon) and his non-biological brother, Bobby Campbell (Owen Patrick Joyner). In an attempt to avoid Bobby’s presence, Erik devises a dangerous plan involving forcing Bobby to consume food he’s severely allergic to, potentially causing his death. However, the consequences for Erik are severe; he ends up undergoing a traumatic experience when his piercings and internal organs are injured during an MRI scan. Meanwhile, Bobby meets a different kind of fate, getting struck by debris from a vending machine after the chaos ensues. Despite their harrowing experiences, the family doesn’t seek safety but rather remain in the same dangerous environment.
The end of William Bludworth’s journey
In the novel “Bloodlines”, William Bludworth’s life story reaches its conclusion. He discloses to Stefani that he is afflicted with a fatal illness – terminal cancer. Despite imparting knowledge about defeating death, such as Kimberly’s potential for immortality, he acknowledges that his own demise will coincide with theirs because of his illness. However, he resigns himself to this fate and accepts the uncertainty of when his time will come.
Tony Todd, in an unscripted moment before departing, tells his fans to make the most of their remaining time. He encourages them to savor every second because life is precious and unpredictable. This heartfelt message was spontaneous; the directors asked Tony to speak from his heart to the audience who had supported him for years. The sincerity and emotion in that scene are genuine because it truly reflected Tony’s feelings at that moment.
In this version, I’ve tried to maintain the essence of the original text while making it more accessible and easier to read for a broader audience.
Despite no definitive on-screen indication of Bludworth’s demise, actor Tony Todd passed away in 2024, leading us to infer that William might follow a similar fate as others – yet he would do it with grace and dignity.
The end of Iris’ direct bloodline
Without fail, William’s prophecy comes true – every last relative in Iris’ immediate bloodline perishes. Brenda, Stefani’s aunt from her mother’s side, survives as she is only linked to Iris through marriage. Erik, Stefani’s cousin, also manages to live despite the fact that he was born due to an affair between Brenda and another. However, Erik eventually finds himself on death’s list for meddling with the demise of others. Ultimately, the direct lineage of Iris’ offspring is tragically extinguished by death, whether it be from a rampaging truck or a pile of logs crushing them.
1) The conclusion of the story seems to complete a loop and leaves us wondering what might happen next in the Skyview restaurant saga. If this is indeed the end for the patrons and their kin, then who is destined to face death next? Given the popularity of “Bloodlines,” it’s likely that the Grim Reaper will make an exception for a new storyline very soon.
