Twin Peaks Returns: Stream the Cult Classic Series on Mubi This Summer!

Recently departed from our world a few weeks back, yet his influence lingers heavily within our ordinary lives. The realms he crafted on screen in movies such as Eraserhead, Inland Empire, and Mulholland Drive were the ideal settings for surrealist nightmares, only imaginable by an artist of his caliber. Every so often, Lynch would venture into our everyday reality to stir up chaos within the suburbs we inhabit. The epitome of this is undoubtedly the TV phenomenon known as Twin Peaks.

Beginning June 13, 2025, Mubi will start streaming the first 30 episodes of the renowned series “Twin Peaks”. This marks a significant milestone as it coincides with the 35th anniversary of its initial broadcast on ABC. Katharina Feistauer, Vice President and Global Head of Programming at Mubi, is thrilled to give subscribers the chance to savor this distinctive show on a platform renowned for featuring arthouse movies.

Mubi is thrilled to debut Twin Peaks, a cherished and controversial TV series that has left a lasting impact on television. After months of planning, the timing feels particularly poignant following the recent passing of David Lynch, which makes presenting his legendary work even more meaningful. We eagerly anticipate our members who are fans of Lynch to re-explore the episodes in depth, while also providing a chance for new viewers to encounter this masterpiece for the first time.

The initial two seasons of this show are among the finest on TV, but the world of Twin Peaks is extensive and doesn’t stop there. There’s also the film “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me” and Season 3, which is popularly known as “Twin Peaks: The Return.” Although these subsequent additions are significant extensions of the original series, they won’t be included in Mubi’s collection. Nevertheless, the first 30 episodes serve as an excellent introduction to the eerie universe created by David Lynch.

‘Twin Peaks’ Was an Unparalleled TV Event

Twin Peaks is a captivating television series, where the story unfolds much like any other intriguing mystery. The lifeless body of Laura Palmer, the popular homecoming queen (played by Sheryl Lee), mysteriously appears on the shores of Twin Peaks, a quaint town in Washington state. As FBI special agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) steps into this seemingly peaceful community to delve into the enigma surrounding Laura’s death, he uncovers a bizarre web of secrets held by the townsfolk and dark undercurrents within the town itself. A small-town setting in the Pacific Northwest, combined with the creative vision of David Lynch, makes for an ideal blend that keeps the mystery alive.

Despite seeming similar to other mystery series at first glance, Twin Peaks stands out remarkably. David Lynch deliberately sets a slow pace with initial episodes that might mislead you into thinking it’s merely another emotionally gripping TV show. There are even soap-opera like elements, but the peculiarities of certain characters verge on the absurd, occasionally veering into comedy. However, nothing in Twin Peaks is haphazard; Lynch has a distinct vision for this unsettling town.

Ultimately, the director delivers a punch that leaves you realizing you’re in his surreal realm where the improbable turns into reality, and the unusual becomes commonplace. Agent Cooper discovers himself venturing to another dimension, teeming with eerie creatures, making Twin Peaks appear like a horror series.

The series features Lee, MacLachlan, Lara Flynn Boyle, Sherilyn Fenn, Dana Ashbrook, Everett McGill, Jack Nance, Ray Wise, Joan Chen, Peggy Lipton, Piper Laurie, and others. Developed by David Lynch and Mark Frost, it was met with high praise upon its debut. It earned numerous Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, ultimately winning the Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama in 1991.
