Six years after its original release, the critically-acclaimed psychological horror movie featuring an Academy Award-winning actor will find a fresh streaming platform in the form of Netflix. The timeless masterpiece directed by Jordan Peele, “Get Out”, is expected to make its debut on Netflix this summer.

It’s been verified that the movie “Us” will make its Netflix premiere on June 1st. Previously, it could be watched on FX, or rented/bought through Apple TV and Amazon’s Prime Video.

In a sequel to his 2017 blockbuster, “Get Out“, titled “Us“, Lupita Nyong’o plays Adelaide “Addy” Wilson, who returns with her family to the coastal home she once knew. The reunion is meant for healing, but a chilling memory from her past makes her fearful of impending danger. Her intuition proves correct when four mysterious figures in masks confront the house, triggering a life-or-death struggle. The shock arrives when the attackers remove their masks, revealing they are eerie duplicates of the Wilson family.

Us Further Raised Peele and Nyong’o’s Stocks in the Horror Genre

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I was thrilled to be among the first to witness the premiere of our film at the 2019 South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival. The reception it received was nothing short of extraordinary, with critics hailing its innovative concept and captivating performances. Boasting a remarkable 93% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this masterpiece surpassed all expectations, raking in an astounding $256 million globally against a budget of just $20 million. It even scooped up a Saturn Award and secured a Screen Actors Guild nomination, along with numerous other prestigious accolades. Lupita Nyong’o, my fellow cast member in this cinematic journey, shared the screen with Winston Duke (Gabriel Wilson), Shahadi Wright Joseph (Zora Wilson) from The Lion King, Aquaman franchise star Yahya Abdul Mateen II (Russel Thomas), and the illustrious Elisabeth Moss (Kitty Tyler).

Peele persisted in creating intriguing horror movies, collaborating with Daniel Kaluuya, another star from “Black Panther,” for the critically acclaimed neo-Western sci-fi suspense film, “Nope.” For his future sports-themed horror film, “Him,” Peele tells a story about Cameron Cade (Tyriq Withers), an ambitious football player, who undergoes training at the secluded facility of a veteran quarterback, Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans). This journey with Isaiah uncovers the ominous aspects of sports fame.

In 2024, Lupita Nyong’o appeared in another successful horror movie titled “Day One”, which served as a prequel to the film series of “A Quiet Place” directed by John Krasinski. This film received positive reviews from critics (86% on Rotten Tomatoes) and even earned Nyong’o a nomination for a Saturn Award. At present, she is involved in the filming of “The Odyssey”, an epic historical movie directed by Christopher Nolan that follows the 10-year journey of King Odysseus of Ithaca after the Trojan War and features an impressive ensemble cast.

Us premieres via Netflix on Jun. 1.
