This weekend is a significant one in the theme park sector. It’s been about 25 years since a new American theme park was launched, and it appears that Universal‘s Epic Universe, despite its somewhat repetitive name, is off to an excellent beginning. The rides at Epic Universe are all amazing, fans are thrilled, and surprisingly, even the competitors seem enthusiastic.
For quite some time, there has been curiosity about how the opening of Epic Universe would influence Walt Disney World. Disney has largely been evasive about this topic, only mentioning it when directly questioned, and maintaining that they are not concerned about the potential impact of the new park on their own operations. However, one of the higher-ups at Disney World did acknowledge Universal’s accomplishment in opening Epic Universe.
Walt Disney World Congratulated Universal On The Opening Of Epic Universe
Jeff Vahle, the head of Walt Disney World, shared a message on Instagram to acknowledge the grand opening of Epic Universe. He extended his warm congratulations to Universal Destinations & Experiences on their remarkable accomplishment. Here’s what he posted:

It came as somewhat unexpected news to me that a post like this appeared, given Walt Disney World’s apparent efforts to downplay the existence of Epic Universe. However, considering Disney’s history of extending congratulations to its competitors – notably Universal Studios Florida when it first opened – maybe it wasn’t as big a surprise as it initially seemed. In fact, Disney placed an ad in the Orlando Sentinel welcoming that park to the area back then.

Indeed, an advertisement in a local newspaper from past times wouldn’t have reached as many people as a social media post does today. However, it’s still a refined decision on Disney’s part, considering Vahle might be correct that this development is excellent for Orlando tourism and consequently, Walt Disney World.
Epic Universe Is Probably Good News for Walt Disney World
There has been much discussion about Disney World seemingly not addressing Epic Universe adequately. It’s accurate that the resort doesn’t currently boast a significant new attraction meant to attract visitors. However, it’s worth noting that Disney World is bustling with activities in 2025. When you factor in the recent major attractions and those planned for the next few years, there are more than enough reasons to pay a visit to Disney World’s iconic park at this very moment.
It’s clear that Disney World stands to gain substantially with the opening of Epic Universe. Many people will likely visit Orlando just to explore Epic in the coming months, and it’s almost certain that some will also drop by Disney World. Given their budget, some might prefer Epic over Vacation Kingdom, while others may opt to visit both parks.
