Kenan Thompson Teases “A Lot of Change” at ‘SNL’ Next Season

Kenan Thompson is subtly suggesting significant changes in the cast lineup for the upcoming season on Saturday Night Live.

In a conversation with Page Six, the veteran SNL cast member and comedian described the end of the historic 50th season, which culminated with Scarlett Johansson hosting on May 17, as “a mix of sweetness and bitterness.

Thompson pointed out that this coming year seems to bring about a significant amount of change, and considering people might make decisions during the summer, he expressed a desire for everyone to remain unchanged. It’s as if you wish your children could stay young forever.

There’s been no official announcement about the SNL cast for season 51, but there’s been quite a buzz online suggesting changes might be on the way. As for Kenan Thompson, who joined NBC’s sketch comedy show back in season 29 in 2003, he hasn’t put pen to paper on a contract for the next season yet.

He put it simply: ‘You never can tell what’s coming next.’ He didn’t want to be a hindrance to someone else or an old timer stuck in the past. That doesn’t happen often on SNL, but there are no promises, I suppose.

There’s been a lot of talk among fans about which cast members might be leaving after this season, but it’s unlikely SNL will announce any changes to its 17-person team until closer to the start of season 51 in the fall. Still, with some actors like Thompson, Michael Che, Colin Jost, Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner, and Ego Nwodim having been on the show for seven or more years, a shakeup could be possible.
