Storyline: The impoverished son of a farmer named Espen, who goes by “Ash Lad”, embarks on a perilous journey alongside his siblings, to rescue the captive princess from the malicious troll called the Mountain King. Their objective is to claim the promised reward and save their family’s farm from impending destruction.

As a movie critic, allow me to share my thoughts on “The Ash Lad”: My personal journey begins with Princess Kristin (Harboe), who, on the brink of her 18th birthday, makes a daring escape from her royal residence, unwilling to marry a king that could unleash the troll mountain king. Meanwhile, I cross paths with Espen (Enger) just as his clumsy antics threaten to disrupt his own peaceful existence. In essence, “The Ash Lad” is a tale of two lives intertwining in an unexpected dance, set against the backdrop of mythical creatures and ancient prophecies.

Espen embarks on a journey to locate the princess prior to the king’s guards. Yet, the journey he undertakes leads him through a sequence of surreal and terrifying dreams instead.

Verdict on The Ash Lad

Best Parts

This film skillfully crafts a captivating, Norwegian-rooted fantastical universe, showcasing the stunning vistas of its terrain. It’s populated by various imaginative beings that feel remarkably lifelike. Acting across the board is top-notch.

Worst Parts

Although the universe appears vast, it fails to create a sense of expansiveness beyond the human characters we encounter. It feels somewhat confined and limited in scope.
