Wyclef Jean and Mark Cuban Set to Headline Lineup for Detroit Edition of Global Citizen NOW

Global Citizen NOW is going on the road.

For the initial time in U.S., an event hosted by the organization, Global Citizen NOW: Detroit, is being held outside New York. This summit, sponsored by real estate company Bedrock, will be happening at Hudson’s Detroit on July 10. Leaders from various business and cultural spheres will convene to discuss the future of cities and urban renewal, focusing on urban revitalization.

I’m part of an impressive lineup of participants, and here are some of the big names: me, Wyclef Jean – a renowned artist and activist; Mark Cuban, a business mogul; Marcus Samuelsson, a high-profile chef; George Opare Addo, Ghana’s minister of youth development and empowerment; Ashley Scott Adjaye, CEO of The Stories of Us; Clare Akamazi, NBA Africa CEO; Margaret Anadu, senior partner at The Vistria Group; Hilary Doe, Michigan’s chief growth officer; Melanie Harris, president of business operations for the Detroit Pistons; Isabelle Kamariza, CEO of Solid Africa; Tiff Massey, an artist; Jessica Care Moore, a poet, playwright, and artist; Jessica Nabongo, author, travel expert, and cultural ambassador; Marvin Rees, former Bristol, U.K. mayor; Sangita Sharma, director of Delta Sustainable Skies Lab; Robin Terry, chairwoman of the Motown Museum; and Tashif “Sheefy McFly” Turner, another artist. It’s quite a star-studded event!

The current leaders of Global Citizen NOW: Detroit are Kofi Bonner (CEO of Bedrock Detroit), Randall Lane (Chief Content Officer of Forbes), Papanii Okai (Executive Vice President of Product Engineering at Rocket), Romeo Okwara (former Detroit Lion), and Mary Sheffield (President of Detroit City Council). The event also receives support from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Cisco, Delta Air Lines, PayPal, and media partner Forbes. To conclude the day’s activities, a live music event will take place at Third Man Records, with Jean performing alongside some exciting special guests.
