The DC Universe storyline is gradually coming together under James Gunn’s leadership post-DCEU, with signs pointing towards one character potentially meeting an untimely end. The new DC Universe is being rejuvenated and consolidated, featuring fresh characters and a cohesive lineup of projects. Some of the ongoing shows and films in development are shaping the direction of the DCU, while others from the DCEU are carrying over into the new universe, like Peacemaker.
In a nutshell, although the DC Universe (DCU) is essentially being rebooted, some familiar characters will remain and it’s possible that their stories might delve into darker territories, following the tone set in the comics. Given the source material’s influence on these characters and narratives, it appears plausible that a significant character may meet their end, potentially one who is slated for a comeback in the DCU.
Maxwell Lord Is Responsible For 1 Major Hero Death In DC Comics
Maxwell Lord Is A Dasterdly Villain In DC Comics
In the storyline of “Countdown to Infinite Crisis,” the character Ted Kord delves into a predicament concerning Maxwell Lord, a wealthy magnate with connections to Justice League International. However, Maxwell Lord is not a virtuous figure. He harbors sensitive details about the key members of the core Justice League. When Ted Kord, the second Blue Beetle in the comics, attempts to alert the Justice League regarding these issues, they disregard and even harshly dismiss his warning. Eventually, Ted chooses to confront Maxwell Lord alone, and it is during this encounter that the hero meets a tragic end at the hands of the menacing Lord.
This death was both startling and violent, yet it didn’t prompt any substantial changes within the Justice League. However, it set the stage for the upcoming Blue Beetle character to assume the role. Notably, unlike most movies, Blue Beetle is slated to continue in the DCU. The original film subtly hinted at Ted Kord’s survival. Although Jamie Reyes is now the Blue Beetle, understanding his connection to Kord is crucial. However, this could potentially lead to a scenario similar to what transpired in the comics.
Maxwell Lord Being Introduced So Early Would Justify A Bigger Role In The DCU
The DCU’s Lineup Is Expanding Already
Maxwell Lord is a notable villain, although there are others who are more malevolent. In the DCEU, he made his debut in “Wonder Woman 1984,” portrayed by Pedro Pascal. Pascal is an esteemed actor, but he has numerous other responsibilities, including his role as Mister Fantastic in the MCU. Contrastingly, Gunn has cast Sean Gunn to embody Maxwell Lord within the DCU, and it appears that his rendition of the character will have a significant, long-lasting impact from the onset, possibly suggesting a larger role in the series.
As a movie buff, I’m thrilled to share my insights about a character who seems to be making waves within the DC Universe. James Gunn, known for his work on ‘Superman’ and ‘Peacemaker’ season 2, is expected to play a significant role in both projects. Given their pivotal status in the DCU, it appears that Gunn has quite the reputation inside this universe. If this is true, then his character likely has an ongoing narrative across different films, and given his darker comic book background, it seems logical to incorporate aspects of his cruelty and brutality into these stories.
Killing Ted Kord Could Further Blue Beetle’s DCU Story & Help His Move To The New DC Universe
Blue Beetle Needs To Find A Way In To The DCU From The DCEU
Incorporating Blue Beetle, a character previously associated with the DCEU, into the larger DCU presents an intricate narrative challenge. Just as Peacemaker season 2 is handling its first season’s events, by considering most of the first season as established fact unless explicitly contradicted, a robust story will be needed to seamlessly connect Blue Beetle’s Jamie Reyes with other heroes and villains within the DCU.
In a challenging turn of events, if we were to have Jamie seek out and learn from the previous Blue Beetle, Ted Kord, in the DCEU, it would mean a deeply emotional odyssey as Jamie grapples with the loss of this influential figure in his life. Introducing a storyline where Kord struggles desperately to alert his comrades, ultimately meeting his end at the hands of Maxwell Lord, could pave the way for Kord’s tale to persist within the DCU. Moreover, the selfless act of Ted Kord, sacrificing himself as both mentor and friend to Jamie, could serve as a powerful foundation for our young hero, spurring him on to confront villains like Maxwell Lord.
I Think Maxwell Lord Killing Ted Kord Suits The DCU’s Story Approach So Far
The DCU Has A Balanced Approach To Storytelling
In a different yet clear phrase: Gunn possesses an exceptional grasp of the characters from the DC universe, delving deep into their comic book origins and understanding what drives them. Unlike the DCEU’s darker, grittier approach, Gunn skillfully blends humor with mature themes like violence. Even though films such as Superman appear light and breezy on the surface, they still explore deeper, more complex ideas. To introduce Blue Beetle effectively into the DC universe and maintain continuity, it seems fitting to establish a strong connection with existing characters like Maxwell Lord.
If Lord kills Jamie’s mentor and friend, or if Jamie is pursuing Kord and discovers that Lord has taken him captive, this situation would provide an excellent opportunity for Jamie’s character to become more deeply involved in the wider DC Universe. This scenario aligns with the serious, action-packed tone of movies like Superman that are part of the current lineup. These elements could be seamlessly integrated into a Blue Beetle story within the DCU. While this path may not be easy for Reyes in Blue Beetle, it would certainly be an engaging way to thrust him into the action.
