Aamir Khan defends son Junaid Khan amid Loveyapa debacle, blames nepotism for failure: ‘Mujhe to achi lagi thi’

Aamir Khan has openly discussed the disappointing performance of his son Junaid Khan‘s romantic comedy “Loveyapa,” which featured Khushi Kapoor, as well as expressed his thoughts on nepotism in the film industry.

In a recent interview with Raj Shamani, Aamir Khan confessed that the well-being and future of his children mean more to him than his own. Speaking about his son Junaid Khan’s role in “Loveyapa,” he expressed, “The part didn’t work out, but I appreciated it.” He also praised his son for doing an excellent job in the role, which is not a reflection of his real-life persona. He highlighted the exceptional talent displayed by his son in portraying a character in the film.

When queried about Loveyapa’s reasons for falling short, the Sitaare Zameen Par contended that it faced a wave of negative criticism instead.

He mentioned, “This movie received a lot of criticism online… it sparked discussions about nepotism with people labeling us ‘nepo-kids,’ but let me clarify, neither me nor Junaid fit into that category.

Khan clarified his perspective by referencing his sister, Nikhat Khan, who began acting at the age of 50. He emphasized that she secured her roles through screen tests without his assistance. He stated that providing work to his close associates is something he finds impossible because it would be unjust towards the film industry.

“Up till now I have not interfered in Junaid’s career and nor do I want to,” said the 60-year-old.

Beyond what I’ve already mentioned, he additionally spoke about his perspective on nepotism. He emphasized that he aimed to support his brother, Faisal Khan, during the early stages of his career. He recalled collaborating with his brother in Mela after his first film didn’t succeed. Regardless of the immense effort he invested, Mr. Perfectionist acknowledged that he couldn’t advance his own career. It was then that he understood that no one can truly assist another in this industry.

On a closing remark, he humbly requested above all else, “May the success I’ve achieved be granted to Junaid, for I am powerless to do anything beyond that.
