Becoming a mother is a joyous time for a woman, but it’s never simple! Bollywood starlet Dia Mirza transitioned into motherhood when her son, Avyaan Azaad Rekhi, arrived in 2021. Following his birth, the newborn was quickly moved to the ICU and required life-saving surgery, as Dia shared in a recent conversation. She spoke candidly about her high-risk pregnancy at 39 years old. The Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein actress explained that Avyaan came into the world under extraordinary circumstances due to an acute bacterial infection she encountered during pregnancy.
To the Authorities in India, Dia Mirza shared that her bacterial infection might have been caused by a complication from an appendix operation she had during her fifth month of pregnancy. She explained, “Towards the end of my sixth month, we discovered that my placenta was bleeding excessively and my body was entering sepsis. If the baby wasn’t delivered immediately, neither of us would have survived. It was quite frightening,” said the 43-year-old actress.
Dia shared additional details about her challenging childbirth experience. She mentioned that primarily, she wanted the doctor to ensure the wellbeing of her newborn. Upon birth, Avyaan weighed merely 810 grams. At the same time, the actress was receiving intravenous antibiotics. Later on, doctors determined that the bacteria she had were potentially fatal. Nevertheless, thanks to the medication, the situation stabilized.
Mirza also remembered taking antibiotics for three weeks straight. Meanwhile, her premature baby required emergency surgery just 36 hours after birth due to a perforated intestine. She went on to describe the operation, saying “The doctors created a stoma by bringing his intestine out of his body and leaving it exposed.
Moving on with our discussion, the actress from Bheed shared that she had to deal with COVID-19 restrictions and could only see Avyaan twice a week, which amplified her worries. Dia found it difficult to keep him until he reached 2.5 kilograms, at which point she brought him home for precisely 20 days. Once the baby started getting stronger and weighed 3.5 kg, he underwent another operation to fix his stoma.
During the same interview, the actress from Nadaniyaan shared an emotional disclosure about writing a book for her son. This book chronicles her pregnancy experiences and provides intricate details about her challenging delivery. Speaking about how Avyaan has taught her resilience, Dia expressed that it requires great strength, patience, and a positive outlook to endure, survive, and maintain a smile amidst the hardships that Avyaan has faced.
For those not familiar, Dia Mirza was previously married to her longtime business partner Sahil Sangha. They divorced in 2019, and later she tied the knot with businessman Vaibhav Rekhi in 2021. The pair welcomed their child Avyaan in the same year. It’s worth noting that Dia also has a stepdaughter, Samaira, from Vaibhav’s previous marriage.
