James Cameron plans to step away from the world of Pandora for a while, as he prepares to bring the hit novel “The Devils” to life on screen.
On a recent Monday, it was shared on Facebook by the filmmaker that their production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, has obtained the rights for author Joe Abercrombie‘s recently published novel. It’s been announced that Cameron will pen the script for this project, with Abercrombie himself also contributing.
The story, titled ‘The Devils’, revolves around an extraordinary group of monsters who are drafted for a crucial mission: defending Europe against hordes of carnivorous elves.
Cameron stated, ‘I’ve admired Joe’s writing for quite some time now, finding joy in every new piece I read, whether it be the expansive series of the First Law books, particularly my favorite, Best Served Cold (I adore it!), and the Age of Madness trilogy. However, the allure of the world and characters in The Devils has motivated me to purchase one of his books and collaborate with him to adapt it for the screen.’
He added, “I’m eagerly looking forward to delving deeper into ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’. This upcoming project promises to be an exciting, fresh endeavor as I breathe life into these unforgettable characters.
About Cameron, Abercrombie stated, “I can’t imagine a more suitable person to adapt this strange and fascinating beast of a novel for the silver screen.
In the third installment of James Cameron’s “Avatar” saga, titled “Avatar: Fire and Ash“, is set to premiere in theaters on December 19. During Disney’s CinemaCon presentation in April, Cameron shared a video message as he was busy completing the movie in New Zealand and couldn’t attend personally. The next “Avatar” film has been scheduled for release on December 21, 2029.
In the previous year, the rights for Charles Pellegrino’s book titled “Ghosts of Hiroshima,” which delves into the narrative of the atomic bomb, were obtained by Cameron.
Abercrombie has been a writer for various productions, including the recent season of Netflix’s animated anthology show titled “Love, Death & Robots.
