Momoa & Samberg?! Netflix Just Won Big!

Jason Momoa and Andy Samberg are set to feature in a yet-unnamed action comedy film, as the streaming platform clinched the deal following a fierce bidding competition. The beloved actors will be headlining this upcoming production.

As reported, several studios and streaming platforms were vying for a two-handed action comedy that remains unnamed, with Netflix emerging as the frontrunner due to their competitive offer. Although specifics about the plot are still kept confidential, it’s been revealed that the film will take place in Hawaii, which is Momoa’s hometown. Samberg’s Party Over Here and Momoa’s On The Roam production companies will collaborate on this project, marking their first joint venture. Emmy-nominated Saturday Night Live veterans Rob Klein and John Solomon are set to write the script for the movie, but a director has yet to be appointed.

Jason Momoa is primarily recognized for portraying the superhero Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe across various films, including two standalone movies launched in 2018 and 2023. His other significant film roles include the 2011 reboot of Conan the Barbarian, Duncan Idaho in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, the antagonist Dante Reyes in Fast X, and more recently, Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison in A Minecraft Movie. This latter film was produced by Warner Bros., and it turned out to be a blockbuster hit at the box office this year.

Jason Momoa Is Booked and Busy

Next on the actor’s agenda, he has chosen to work on a personal endeavor: an extraordinary portrayal of the unification and colonization of Hawaii during the late 18th century. Moreover, audiences can anticipate his appearances in the DC Universe film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” as Lobo, the hybrid live-action/animated road trip movie “Animal Friends”, the action comedy “The Wrecking Crew”, and “Dune 3”, where he will reprise his character Duncan Idaho. Lastly, negotiations are underway for another project, yet to be finalized.

Regarding Samberg, he is most famously recognized for his seven-season stint on the sketch comedy program “Saturday Night Live” and as a member of the comedy music troupe known as the Lonely Island. Other significant roles include playing Jake Peralta in the police sitcom “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” sharing screen time with Adam Sandler in the film “That’s My Boy,” and lending his voice to the character Jonathan Loughran in the “Hotel Transylvania” animated series.

Upcoming appearances for him include a role alongside Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch in Jay Roach’s remake of the 1989 dark comedy “The War of the Roses,” titled “The Roses“. This film, a production by Searchlight Pictures, is slated to premiere in cinemas at the end of August. Additionally, he will once more lend his voice as Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which has faced several delays but is now set to release in theaters in June 2027.

No word yet on when the untitled Netflix movie might begin production.
