Following its March release, Disney’s live-action Snow White will make its streaming debut on Disney+ later this month. Prior to hitting theaters, the film had garnered attention due to comments from its leading actresses, Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.
82 days following its initial cinema release, the Disney+ platform will debut “Snow White” on June 11th, as reported. Despite grossing only $205.5 million globally and earning a modest $87.2 million domestically, “Snow White” has been labeled as one of Disney’s biggest disappointments in live-action remakes. This film, led by director Marc Webb, is said to have had a production budget ranging from $240 to $270 million. This underperformance may be causing Disney to temporarily halt all upcoming live-action remake productions.
Zegler Called the 1937 Snow White “Weird, Weird”
Despite being re-released, the movie struggled to gain traction, generating only $252 in revenue per theater screen across a thousand U.S. cinemas. Prior to its debut, the film had a rocky beginning due to Zegler’s contentious remarks concerning Disney’s 1937 version of Snow White.
2022 saw an interview where Zegler expressed that the original movie felt “outdated.” Specifically, she found it peculiar that the film emphasized a romantic storyline involving a man who was essentially a stalker. She described this aspect as “strange” indeed. Additionally, she labeled the overall film as “odd, odd,” which sparked some criticism from Disney enthusiasts. Notably, some fans also objected to Zegler being cast in the lead role.

Gal Gadot Mired in Controversy
Furthermore, Gadot, known for her portrayal of the Evil Queen in Snow White, has faced some controversy. As an Israeli actress, she has been vocal about her support for Israel since the conflict started in October 2023. This stance led to protests in Lebanon where the film was showing, and it was also boycotted by the BDS movement and PACBI, a Palestinian-led non-violent campaign advocating for an academic and cultural boycott of Israel.
The live-action version of Snow White is out, and it’s currently receiving negative reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 40% critic score, while on IMDb it only has a 1.8/10 rating.
Lilo & Stitch Performing Much Better for Disney
As a devoted Disney fan, I’m thrilled to share some positive news! Despite the general gloom surrounding things, Disney’s recent live-action remake of the 2002 animated film has been a major success. So far, it has raked in an impressive $234.1 million in the U.S., and its worldwide total stands at a staggering $469 million! In just two weeks, this movie has surpassed several other films in theater earnings.
Over the Memorial Day weekend holiday, box office earnings surpassed $92.7 million, breaking the previous record set by “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” which was first shown in 2007.
Snow White hits Disney+ on June 11. Lilo & Stitch is currently playing in movie theaters.
