‘Ma’ Sequel in the Works at Blumhouse with Octavia Spencer Returning

Octavia Spencer is on board for more Ma.

Blumhouse unveiled that they are working on a follow-up for their psychological horror-thriller movie, sharing this information during their “Business of Fear” gathering.

2019’s hit movie raked in $60 million at the box office and featured Spencer in the role of Sue Ann, a secluded woman who became friends with a group of teenagers, permitting them to host parties in her basement. However, events took a darker turn as she imposed a set of stringent regulations on the youths visiting her home, such as prohibiting them from going upstairs.

As stated by Blumhouse, one factor drawing them to the movie Ma is the abundance of memes generated from it, indicating that it has managed to maintain relevance within popular culture over time.

Jason Blum, the founder and CEO of Blumhouse, has expressed excitement as ‘Ma’ has become a cultural sensation following its debut in 2019. Fans have been captivated by both the film and Octavia Spencer’s unforgettable portrayal of Ma. As fans know, she often encourages others not to drink alone. We are thrilled that Octavia will be rejoining us for another round,” said Jason Blum.

At this point, there’s no information about who will direct or write the sequel. Originally, Tate Taylor was the director, working from a script penned by Scotty Landes.

Spencer earned an Oscar for her role in ‘The Help’, and she was also recognized with nominations for ‘Hidden Figures’ and ‘The Shape of Water’. Her representation includes CAA and Jackoway Austen.
