Bethesda remembers it just released an Elder Scrolls game, announces gameplay-focused Oblivion patch that addresses about 5% of player complaints

Positive update: An individual at Bethesda inadvertently stumbled over a discarded game box in the corridor and was reminded that they had launched an Elder Scrolls title about a month and a half back. Following a prolonged quiet spell on Oblivion Remastered, Bethesda has resurfaced with exciting news: not one but two forthcoming updates for their revamped version of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.

The patches have been divided into two sectors. The initial one, accessible now via Steam as a beta version, focuses on “quests, major bugs and hindrances, and improvements to overall user experience.” In other words, it addresses those small annoyances that have bothered you since the game launched, such as the elusive local map in Oblivion Remastered, the persistent HUD that can’t be turned off, and Savlian Matius choosing to reside permanently in Castle Kvatch’s courtyard. It’s slated for a complete release on June 11, but you can choose to participate in the beta by navigating to the properties section of Oblivion Remastered within Steam.

The second update is specifically addressing the performance problems in the game. To tell you the truth, my experience with Oblivion Remastered has been smooth in terms of performance, but many players are encountering stuttering and jerkiness while exploring Cyrodiil.

It seems my assumption – which Bethesda hasn’t explicitly stated – is that these issues might be trickier for the developers to resolve. This is because they haven’t set a specific deadline for the fix, opting instead to share more information about it once they have the details ready.

frankly speaking, I must admit that the detailed changes (which I’ll share later) for the major gameplay update feel somewhat lackluster. Creating games isn’t easy and Oblivion Remastered—being a unique blend of the original Gamebryo version and UE5—is undoubtedly a challenging project, but by now, it has been on the market for nearly two months.

Players have been suggesting various aspects for Bethesda and Virtuos to enhance the game’s user experience, including organizing inventory into categories, adding additional shortcut slots, finding a balanced difficulty level between Adept and Expert modes, removing outdated spells, and much more.

It’s a bit underwhelming that Bethesda has only addressed some concerns after a prolonged absence, considering the complexity of their project might be causing delays. However, if that’s the case, it would be beneficial for the studio to keep everyone informed about the situation.

Of course!

“Well, let’s hope this is just the start, and we can look forward to numerous updates that will iron out all the issues this game seems to have. For now though, you might want to get used to spending a good amount of time meticulously going through your inventory.
