The inaugural Pride LIVE! Hollywood festival has added several events to its lineup.
Several films have been added to our lineup, such as “The Big Johnson,” a movie that showcases the life of queer punk icon Dean Johnson. After the screening, nightlife pioneer Mario Diaz and filmmaker Lola Rocknrolla will discuss the film and its subject matter.
Furthermore, the event schedule includes showings of “Happy Clothes: A Film About Patricia Field,” spotlighting the designer behind the costumes for “Sex and the City.” There’s also the comedy “Things Like This,” featuring a Q&A with its writer-director and star Max Talisman. Lastly, the LA premiere of the British film “Unicorns” starring Ben Hardy and Jason Patel will be accompanied by the short film “Barbie Boy,” directed by Remi Gabriel.
Or, in a more conversational style:
Besides regular screenings, you’ll find special events like “Happy Clothes: A Film About Patricia Field” focusing on the costume designer from “Sex and the City.” There’s also the comedy “Things Like This,” where you can catch a Q&A with its writer-director and star Max Talisman. Last but not least, the LA premiere of the UK film “Unicorns” starring Ben Hardy and Jason Patel will have the short film “Barbie Boy” as an opening act, directed by Remi Gabriel.
Two events happening for free at Amoeba Music are scheduled:
1. The L.A. Exes power-pop band will perform and sign their album, Get Some.
2. To kick off Pride weekend, Long Beach DJs wonderfulbryan and speakandspel will play LGBT favorites.
These also encompass events that were previously announced such as a tribute to Norman Lear’s groundbreaking television work, celebrations marking the anniversaries of TV shows like The Golden Girls and Queer as Folk (the latter being fully booked), screenings of movies from the disco era and many more.
Initiated by Mark Lieber and Adam Newman, the team behind Infinity Festival, this event intends to honor top-tier entertainment – both timeless and contemporary – with a queer perspective. It’s being organized and led by New York Times bestselling author Jim Colucci (Golden Girls Forever) and writer-performer Frank DeCaro (The Daily Show and Sirius XM OutQ), together with The Hollywood Partnership and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Alongside Lieber, Newman, Colucci, and DeCaro, Brian Folb – a significant influencer in the Hollywood community and CEO of Hollywood Offices – and production expert Jeroen Hallaert are also part of the organizing team for Pride LIVE!. The Hollywood Reporter serves as the event’s primary media sponsor.
Colucci and DeCaro stated that Hollywood Pride LIVE! is a tribute to Hollywood as a worldwide symbol of creativity, pride, and advancement. It’s a mix of stunning bears, ‘Barbie boys’, dancing discos, and insightful discussions. Here, the history, present, and future of LGBTQ+ pop culture intersect.
The event is scheduled for June and will be held at multiple venues such as NeueHouse Hollywood, W Hollywood, Ricardo Montalban Theatre, LA Explained, Emerson College, Amoeba Music, The Aster and Lemon Grove, Hollywood Offices, and the indie theater Cinelounge located within the Hollywood Offices at 6464 Sunset.
Scott Lowell, star of ‘Queer as Folk,’ emphasizes the significance of honoring these remarkable programs, particularly during Pride Month in Los Angeles, at a festival that both commemorates our history and illuminates the way forward.
