Jon Hamm’s Drama Overtaken by New Owen Wilson Sports Comedy on Streaming Charts

The success of Jon Hamm’s Apple TV+ drama was swiftly surpassed by a fresh sports comedy reminiscent of Ted Lasso, on streaming platforms, mere hours after its premiere. In fact, it was shows like Ted Lasso that paved the path for comedies to gain traction on Apple TV+, thanks to their endearing charm, clever humor, and widespread appeal. Notably, some of the most-watched comedies on this platform have been spearheaded by one of its co-creators, Bill Lawrence. Afterwards, he collaborated with others to create Shrinking and single-handedly ran Bad Monkey. Both shows have been renewed, with production for season 3 of Shrinking currently underway.

As Ted Lasso season 4 gets ready for filming, the streaming service is launching other humorous TV shows from various creators. Some of their latest additions include the historical comedy Palm Royale, the satirical program The Studio, and even a sci-fi humor show called Murderbot, which is currently airing now. However, a new sports comedy has recently debuted on the platform; it’s already pushed Hamm’s newest drama, Your Friends & Neighbors, down to second place in the streamer’s popularity rankings.

Stick Has Overtaken Your Friends & Neighbors One Day After Release

The Comedy Premiered With Its First 3 Episodes

The sports comedy series “Stick,” debuted on Apple TV+ yesterday, has already surpassed Owen Hamm’s “Your Friends & Neighbors” in viewership just one day after its release. This humorous show, starring Owen Wilson as Pryce Cahill, a former pro-golfer turned coach, boasts an impressive 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its witty scripts and captivating storylines. Critics have commended Wilson’s acting and the engaging comedic elements of the series.

As of June 5, 2025, I’m thrilled to share that Apple TV+’s “Most Popular Now” section now lists my sports comedy, Stick, as Number 1. Jason Hamm’s show, Your Friends & Neighbors, holds the second spot. Although Apple TV+ doesn’t disclose specific viewership numbers, the rapid overtake of a drama by a new comedy indicates that Wilson’s series is already making a strong impact. Despite its novelty, it’s amazing to see how quickly it’s attracting such a large audience.

Our Take On Stick Overtaking Your Friends & Neighbors In Popularity

Unsurprising Given How New The Show Is

After the first season of “Your Friends & Neighbors” ended on May 30, 2025, it was inevitable that another show would soon take its place in the rankings. Interestingly, “Stick,” a golf comedy by Wilson, rose rapidly in popularity and even outshone currently airing shows such as “Murderbot.” This rapid surge in popularity underscores just how instantaneously appealing this comedy series is for the platform, making a strong impact from its very debut.

New episodes of Stick arrive Wednesdays on Apple TV+.
