As a cinephile reflecting on my previous roles, I can’t help but express my eagerness to once again embody The Blind Man for ‘Don’t Breathe 3‘. However, let me clarify that while discussions about the third installment are underway, fans should not anticipate its release anytime soon. In an interview with Screen Rant about my new thriller, ‘Barron’s Cove’, I shared that progress has been made regarding the sequel, but it remains a significant distance away from production.
Lang stated that there was a temporary setback, but he remains optimistic that progress will resume. He also mentioned that he believes there’s potential in the project. Initially, Lang played The Blind Man (also known as Norman Nordstrom) in director Fede Álvarez’s 2016 horror movie, which was co-written with Rodo Sayagues. This film, titled Don’t Breathe, was a massive success, earning over $157 million at the box office on a budget of less than $10 million. Critics appreciated Lang’s contribution to the home invasion subgenre, as he delivered a unique and compelling performance. The sequel, Don’t Breathe 2, was released in 2021, although it didn’t receive the same level of acclaim as its predecessor. However, Lang’s performance in this film was once again praised as exceptional.
After the buzz about Don’t Breathe 3, it seems plans are yet unclear. With the success of Alien: Romulus last year, directors Álvarez and Sayagues have found themselves in high demand. They are now working on the sequel, leaving the future of the next Don’t Breathe flick uncertain. Fingers crossed, if it happens, Lang mentioned that it should be a fully-realized concept: “something really complete”.
The main challenge in working on another movie with Fedo and Rodo is that their previous work, “Don’t Breathe” and its sequel, set a high bar due to their uniqueness. A mere imitation won’t suffice; we need something truly original. Finding such a concept can be tough, but I’ve had recent discussions with them and there seems to be some movement, albeit slow. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we can bring the old villain to his end.
Stephen Lang Shines in ‘Barron’s Cove’
Although it may take some time until Stephen Lang returns to play The Blind Man in “Don’t Breathe 3”, fans can catch him now starring as the sinister mafia boss Benji in the latest thriller, “Barron’s Cove”. Despite mixed opinions from critics on Rotten Tomatoes (with a 67% rating), Lang is again being commended for his acting skills. Given his exceptional talent and ability to captivate audiences whenever he appears on screen, this recognition is well-deserved as he continues to be one of the top character actors in the industry today.
In addition to Garrett Hedlund, Christian Convery, Stephen Lang, Brittany Snow, Hamish Linklater, and Tramell Tillman, the movie “Barron’s Cove” centers around a man with a turbulent history who abducts a child he believes is responsible for his son’s demise. As he inches closer to discovering the truth, he questions whether those chasing him are truly trying to safeguard the boy or merely the clandestine information he possesses. The film has been unveiled by Well Go USA and can be rented or bought on all Video-On-Demand platforms starting today.
While we wait for updates on “Don’t Breathe 3”, why not watch Lang’s remarkable acting in the 2016 original, which is currently streaming on Starz?
