High Potential Season 2: David Targets Morgan’s Ex-Husband Ludo in a Chilling Game

As a movie buff, I can’t help but express my excitement about the thrilling finale of “High Potential” Season 1! It ended with a double cliffhanger that left me on the edge of my seat, but one thing is clear – whoever David has been targeting, they should be very concerned for Season 2. The character of David Giuntoli, a cunning serial kidnapper who goes by the alias “David,” marked the introduction of our new recurring villain in this crime procedural.

The Major Crimes Unit of the LAPD, led by Lieutenant Selena Soto (Judy Reyes), Adam Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), Lev “Oz” Ozdil (Deniz Akdeniz), and Daphne Forrester (Javicia Leslie), joined forces with genius consultant Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson) throughout Season 1 to tackle the cases of “High Potential” and bring down a dozen criminals. The dynamic between these characters made for some intense and gripping viewing, leaving me eagerly awaiting Season 2!

Contrasting to the ending of High Potential‘s first season, it appears that the villain successfully escaped, with no signs of David intending to halt his destructive actions. Given his past actions such as kidnapping Oz, imprisoning him in a drowning device, locking an ordinary citizen in a vacuum-like safe, and denying a diabetic person their insulin, it’s clear that David’s reappearance in High Potential season 2 promises an action-packed return. Although vague hints were dropped in the finale about his future actions, it seems that his next target will be chosen to serve a particular purpose and provoke a specific character from High Potential Intellectuals in the upcoming season.

David Promised To Return In The High Potential Season 1 Finale

The Kidnapper Left The Genius An Unsettling Message

In the second season of High Potential, it’s not just a possibility that David will reappear; rather, it’s been explicitly stated. The kidnapper, during the finale of season 1, subtly left a pack of cards with a cryptic message for Morgan among their family’s groceries. These cards had a label on the back, referring to Morgan as “the one” and suggesting that she and David would engage in another round of games together. Given the nature of the games David participated in during his initial appearance, this covert message was particularly unsettling for the genius who helped unravel his three enigmas.

It turns out that the LAPD has been chasing a ghost all along. The kidnapper, pretending to be David, had cleverly assumed another person’s identity to sneak into the grief support group. This led the LAPD on a wild goose chase for the real David, but they eventually hit a dead end. In reality, the real David had always managed to stay one step ahead of the LAPD. He secretly observed the police as they untangled his traps at crime scenes, and it was during this time that his fixation on Morgan began.

David Wants Morgan As A Rival, Not A Victim

The Villain Won’t Be Able To Target Her Directly

Although Morgan was specifically targeted by the kidnapper, it’s not herself that she should worry about. In fact, after observing her outstanding detective skills displayed in episode 13 of High Potential, David developed a deep admiration for Morgan’s intelligence. He was particularly impressed by how her exceptional IQ dismantled his puzzles and pushed him to enhance his own abilities. Consequently, David’s attention turned solely towards Morgan, scrutinizing her interactions with Gio Conforth (Domenick Lombardozzi) as meticulously as he followed the case. In episode 13 of High Potential, David even took the initiative to learn about Morgan’s family and felt confident enough to approach them in daylight.

Despite being intrigued by Morgan’s ability to navigate David’s traps rather than by Morgan herself, David won’t focus on Morgan personally in his “High Potential” season 2 strategy. Instead, he finds satisfaction in competing with and having Morgan investigate things, which is crucial for him. The first season finale of “High Potential” hinted at David’s motives being straightforward yet terrifying: all he wants is a game, and Morgan makes an excellent opponent. However, the genius shouldn’t take comfort because David could instead target someone close to her instead.

David’s Options To Go After Morgan’s Loved Ones Are Limited

The High Potential Intellectual Has A Small Inner Circle

In the storyline of our shared narrative, I, as David, am tasked with maintaining the presence of the brilliant consultant in the game. To do this, I’ll aim to provoke Morgan, but I find that my options are quite limited. Morgan and Karadec have developed a close professional bond in ‘High Potential’, making it challenging for me to outmaneuver the experienced police detective, Morgan.

After Oz’s abduction and harrowing near-death experience in season 1, episode 13 of ‘High Potential’, Karadec will likely be on even higher alert. This increased vigilance means he becomes a more elusive target for me.

Currently, Morgan has three cherished kids: her eldest Ava (Amirah J), son Elliot (Matthew Lamb), and baby Chloe. In season 1, episode 7 of High Potential, Ava was placed in danger during a hostage situation at the police station, but she was soon rescued from the crisis and out of harm’s way. Given this incident and their young age, it appears unlikely that the plot of High Potential will involve using Morgan’s children as bargaining chips. Additionally, kidnapping her kids with the intention of causing harm would introduce a grim element to David’s storyline, which seems incongruous with the show’s carefully crafted procedural balance.

Targeting Ludo Would Be David’s Best Move In High Potential Season 2

Morgan’s Ex-Husband Would Be The Perfect Pawn

Since Morgan’s children are considered “High Potential” and thus relatively safe due to their age, David’s malevolent scheme seems to zero in on one individual: Ludo Radovic (Taran Killam). Ludo is not only Morgan’s former spouse but also the father of Elliot and Chloe. Additionally, he serves as a paternal figure for Ava too. Throughout the first season of “High Potential,” it was evident that Ludo was a pillar of strength for Morgan, often disregarding his own responsibilities and needs to aid the family. He adjusted his life to accommodate Morgan’s schedule, taking care of the three children for extended periods. Despite the exhaustion, this demonstrated Ludo’s unwavering commitment to his loved ones.

To put it simply, among all characters in “High Potential,” Ludo stands out as the most heroic when considering the ensemble. The show has given Ludo a significant role outside the primary cast, making him both relatable and intriguing, yet keeping him somewhat in the shadows. It’s possible that David’s secret plan involves pushing Ludo into the spotlight, either by using him as the first abduction to create suspense or as the main trap to intensify the challenges for Morgan in “High Potential” season 2.

In High Potential, it’s clear that Ludo appears to be an ideal target due to his seemingly flawless nature. Unlike many other characters, Ludo isn’t involved in law enforcement, making him less equipped to handle a skilled criminal. Morgan, who still shares a co-parenting relationship with Ludo despite their ended romance, deeply cares for him. The possibility of losing Ludo could significantly impact Morgan’s character development in High Potential, and whether David’s plan succeeds or fails may determine the course of future developments for Morgan. However, since David is known for his dark ingenuity, it’s impossible to foresee his actions when he reappears in High Potential season 2.
