SEC Says ‘Let Ripple Go’! Are They Finally Listening? Or Is This Just a Tease? đ€š
So, the SEC Chair, Paul Atkins, he’s basically saying, âHey, you know what? Self-custody crypto? Yeah, thatâs an American value. Like apple pie, baseball, and complaining about the neighbors.â Seriously, itâs like they woke up one day, looked in the mirror, and said, âYou know what? Maybe weâve been a little too harsh.â
SEC Chair Paul Atkins says the right to self custody crypto “is a foundational American value.” â đđźđ»đžXRP (@BankXRP) June 9, 2025
Cryptoâs Tide Turning? Or Is This Just the Tide Coming In for a Swim?
âLook, having control of your private property – including crypto – shouldnât just disappear when you log onto the internet. Thatâs basic stuff,â Atkins says. âLetâs give people more freedom to hold their crypto, especially when middlemen are just making everything more expensive and annoying.â Yeah, good luck with that, right? đ
He also threw some shade at the old administration, saying they treated crypto wallets like they were drug dealers or something, stifling innovation. Because nothing screams progress like bureaucratic red tape, am I right?
Old cases, New questions – Like, Whatâs Really Going On?
The crypto folks? Theyâre pumped, thinking maybe, just maybe, the SEC is changing its tune. But of course, old wounds and old battles linger. Rippleâs legal squabble with the SEC? Still not over.
Someone pipes up: âWhat about Rippleâs right to be free from the SECâs grip? Why are they still holding on like a bad garage sale?â And then Marc Fagel, the former SEC guy, chimes in with, âRipple broke the law with some shady deals, got fined 125 million bucks, and now theyâre whining? Come on. They want to challenge it? Back to court they go.â Well, thatâs fair, I guess. đŻ
Is the SEC Growing a Conscience? Or Just Changing the Channels?
The court case is getting close to wrapping up, with a deadline of June 16 for some legal filing. Everyoneâs waiting for Judge Torres and the Second Circuit to give the final nod. Once they do, tada! The case ends, the injunction is lifted, and Rippleâs freeâprobably to go to Taco Bell or whatever they do next.
Meanwhile, Congress is busy debating crypto bills. Some new laws might try to clamp down on self-custody. But Atkins here? Heâs throwing a wrench in that plan. âWe shouldnât just freak out about the future,â he says, probably while sipping on some crypto Kool-Aid. Cheers to that! đ„
