In the upcoming Disney+ series, Ironheart, we’ll witness an extraordinary blend of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) elements, masterfully setting the stage for Avengers: Doomsday and Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom. The storyline of Ironheart revolves around Riri Williams’ Stark-inspired technology clashing with Parker Robbins, who has stolen a magical cloak from a demon. This 2025 Disney+ production is significant for Marvel Studios as it marks the first time magic and technology face off in the MCU.
As a film enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement about the upcoming Disney+ series, Ironheart! In an exclusive conversation with Deadline, executive producer Ryan Coogler hinted at an intriguing connection between the series and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.
The storyline of Ironheart delves into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first significant clash between magic and technology – two realms that Doctor Doom is renowned for merging. This magical-technological battle seems to pave the way for Doctor Doom’s powers in future Avengers encounters, making Ironheart a crucial stepping stone in the Marvel saga.
As Coogler made it clear they had no knowledge of Doctor Doom’s plans while creating Ironheart, the striking resemblance serves as an exciting “preview of things yet to unfold” in the 2026 blockbuster.
Initially, we weren’t aware that Doctor Doom would appear in [Avengers 5] when we began production. However, given his reputation for blending technology and magic, it makes perfect sense that he would be part of such a monumental Marvel film, potentially the largest in their history.
In a new twist, Ironheart is set to feature Dominique Thorne, Anthony Ramos, Alden Ehrenreich, Lyric Ross, and it’s been reported that Sacha Baron Cohen, famously known for his role in Borat, will join the cast as the legendary character Mephisto. This suggests an enchanting addition of magical elements to the storyline.
Why Ironheart Is Perfectly Setting Up Avengers 5 (By Accident)
As a die-hard fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I’m eagerly anticipating the arrival of “Ironheart” after two years of delays. This series seems to be arriving at just the right moment, paving the way for “Avengers: Doomsday.” The MCU has yet to seamlessly blend magic and technology, but introducing this concept before Doctor Doom next year will undoubtedly set up “Avengers 5” flawlessly.
It’s common knowledge that “Ironheart” was filmed back in 2022, with “Avengers 5” initially slated to be “The Kang Dynasty,” starring Jonathan Majors as Kang. However, the series had a change of plans and underwent reshoots early in 2024, just before its debut on Disney+.
Marvel Studios has announced that the Ironheart series on Disney+ will occur less than a year after Black Panther 2. This positions the newest series in the MCU timeline nearly two years before upcoming films like Thunderbolts, suggesting it may not significantly lead into Avengers 5.
Ironheart, played by Dominique Thorne, hasn’t been officially included in Doomsday yet. This is because she wasn’t part of the initial cast announcement. However, there are rumors suggesting that she could appear in Avengers 5 as her name was listed among over 30 other potential actors. So, it’s possible that she might join the film after Ironheart.
In the movie “Doomsday”, she could potentially join forces with other young characters (who could possibly headline the MCU’s Champions series in the future), including Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop. It’s clear that Riri Williams’ exceptional intellect will be a valuable asset to the team, as the threat of the Multiversal conflict grows ever closer.
