I’m about to put on my optimistic hat and search for some positive or peculiar stories, as we could use a pick-me-up after posting eight layoff/cancellation notices this week,” I announced in the RPS Slack a moment ago. The first thing I click is a link for a game about constructing hell. Not today, Satan. “Amnesia flying meat orb! Amnesia flying meat orb!” James proposed. James, you’re not being helpful at all. Why can’t you ever be helpful? Oh, look at this! An impossible-to-beat Elden Ring Nightreign boss fight? Maybe this is the hero who will guide us out of our ongoing technofeudal apocalypse. Honestly, I believe Animus, Ascendant Light might be onto something here.
The question at hand involves a challenging boss battle from FromSoft, specifically Nightreign’s upgraded Everdark Sovereign version of the Sentient Pest. This unique adversary comprises three separate bosses combined into one. In its base form, you engage in combat with two enormous insects. The upgraded edition introduces a massive red moth that appears when you defeat one of the other two and takes control over it, reanimating the creature in an empowered state.
By attacking the resurrected creatures, you might harm the red moth. However, Animus has been acting strangely and disappearing without a trace. Even after a recent update, players are still encountering issues where the battle doesn’t end because the third boss fails to appear. It seems that killing both initial bugs at the same time could be causing this problem, but the details are unclear. A long-term fix for this issue is on its way. (Credits: Gamesradar for reporting these player experiences)
I find this intriguing for several reasons. Firstly, it seems as though Animus is treating both of the other nuisances equally, which I appreciate because fairness matters. Secondly, there’s a hint that Animus might be learning from Da Share Zone, and frankly, who wouldn’t want to emulate a From Software leader? After all, if you’re quick enough, these cooperative player battles can feel like a Skeleton stroll. Over the past decade, these remarkable creatures have endured countless beatings, with many YouTubers building entire careers around their analysis. Nightreign, in particular, is a relentless grinder in the live service arena. If you were to gather all the Sentient Pests that players have vanquished so far, it would fill a kaiju bird feeder!
Bravo, Animus! It did well to cleanse itself of the entire foul ordeal. Kudos to it for leaving the GaaS sector behind. I plan to mimic its actions by staying away from work tomorrow. That should make clear who holds the reins.
