ABC News is gearing up to reboot its Good Morning America offshoot GMA3 once again.
On Monday, ABC News president Almin Karamehmedovic informed staff that DeMarco Morgan, one of the show’s co-hosts, “has chosen to embark on a fresh path and will be leaving ABC News,” as stated in a memo obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
I can’t help but admire his unwavering commitment to journalism and his generosity in sharing knowledge with all, as it shines through in everything he does,” I remarked. “We are grateful for his kindness and numerous contributions, send him our best wishes, and eagerly anticipate celebrating the start of his next exciting journey soon.”
This version maintains the original’s sentiment while rephrasing it in a more conversational style using the first person perspective as a fan.
Morgan had been the co-host of GMA3 alongside Eva Pilgrim.
Previously on Monday, it was disclosed that Pilgrim will take over as the host of Inside Edition, a syndicated CBS news program. Last year, Dr. Jen Ashton, who had been co-hosting the show since 2020, left ABC to establish a health and wellness brand.
Without Morgan and Pilgrim, ABC’s morning show will have to restart again. This program initially debuted in 2018 with Michael Strahan and Sara Haines, underwent a revamp during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and had another update in 2023, when Morgan, Pilgrim, and Ashton took over. They stepped into the roles previously held by T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach, who left ABC News in 2022.
Simone Swink, a producer at GMA, took charge of the program earlier this year, and it appears that the revised version is starting to resemble the early episodes more closely. This could indicate a stronger connection between the new edition and the original show.
ABC News has been quietly building up its team for Good Morning America (GMA), bringing in several correspondents and some external talents to sit alongside Michael Strahan, Robin Roberts, and George Stephanopoulos at the anchor desk, as well as taking turns on GMA3. This expansion includes ABC’s own talent like Gio Benitez, James Longman, and Rachel Scott, along with contributors from ESPN, a sister network to ABC. Malika Andrews and Joe Buck are among the hosts who will be filling in for the morning show.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been keeping an eye on the rotating guest hosts of GMA3. Roberts, who hails from ESPN, and Strahan, already a renowned figure in sports media, have graced the show with their presence. Whether they’ll become permanent fixtures is yet to unfold.
