In December, we’ll get a glimpse of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 with 17 tantalizing GIFs revealing various moments from the upcoming episodes. Coincidentally, on the same day, Disney+ shared some early peeks at their content scheduled for 2025.
In the extras beyond the GIFs, there’s a video clip showing Percy running with an item some fans think is the Golden Fleece, a significant artifact in the story of “The Sea of Monsters” book, which is being adapted in Season 2. Another sneak peek features Annabeth saying, “A hero will become a mighty weapon.” This phrase isn’t found in any Percy Jackson novels or their subsequent spin-offs.
The second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will continue the storyline based on Rick Riordan’s second Percy Jackson book. The returning cast includes Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri reprising their roles as Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood respectively. With multiple Emmy awards under its belt from Season 1, fans eagerly await the premiere of Season 2.
Percy Jackson Season 2: First & New Looks at 9 Key Moments
On the official Instagram page of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, they unveiled a collection of GIFs featuring sneak peeks into nine pivotal moments from Season 2.
Percy Sword Fighting with Clarisse
As a passionate cinephile, I was thrilled when I learned about an early scene from Season 2 that had been unveiled a few months ago – long before the filming of the season had even wrapped up. This intriguing scene features Percy Jackson, brilliantly portrayed by Walker Scobell, engaged in a sword fight with Clarisse LaRue, played by Dior Goodjohn. It’s safe to say that I can hardly wait to see these two talented actors bring their characters to life on the big screen!
The recently added GIFs showcase multiple perspectives of a sword fight, seemingly taking place at Camp Half-Blood. Yet, certain figures resemble soldiers watching the battle, suggesting it might be happening just beyond the camp’s borders where Percy and Clarisse may have their encounter.
Clarisse’s vessel is staffed by undead Confederate soldiers resembling zombies, serving as her crew during their voyage. Occasionally, these soldiers can be seen in brief glimpses. Additionally, another figure appears, but there isn’t enough information to determine their identity clearly.
In his capacity as executive producer and author of the Percy Jackson series, Rick Riordan has revealed that Goodjohn will assume a more significant role in Season 2 compared to his appearances in Season 1. This expansion is largely due to the fact that the central quest of the story is now entrusted to Clarisse instead of Percy.
Chariot Racing (First Look at Annabeth in Season 2 Footage)
Regarding the chariot race, it’s worth mentioning that this is another intriguing sequence featured in the freshly unveiled Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 previews. However, certain footage from this particular scene, including a glimpse of Percy, was leaked earlier but isn’t included in any of the GIFs.
This included footage of Percy and Clarisse sword fighting on chariots in one of the GIFs.
In the intriguing chariot race I recently watched, it wasn’t immediately apparent who was steering Percy and Clarisse’s chariots. But upon closer observation, details like the trident emblem (a symbol of Poseidon) on one chariot and a boar (symbolizing Ares) on the other helped clear up the confusion. Additionally, certain physical traits became noticeable. Oh, and let’s not forget about the figure who seemed to be Tyson (Daniel Diemer), adding another layer of mystery to this thrilling spectacle.
In a new image from the chariot race, there’s a statue of a rider on a chariot decorated with a many-headed beast, believed to be a Hydra. This might represent Heracles’ nephew, Iolaus, who in Greek mythology helped his uncle slay the Hydra and later emerged victorious in the first Olympic Games chariot race. Interestingly, characters from the book “The Sea of Monsters“, Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson, face off against a Hydra as well.
The first word on the base of the statue is somewhat unclear, yet it seems the second word is Greek and means ‘Conquered.‘)
In certain chariot race GIFs, Annabeth Chase (portrayed by Leah Sava Jeffries), is depicted wearing golden armor and bearing a symbolic owl on her breastplate. Given that owls symbolize the goddess Athena, Annabeth’s presence in the race signifies her cabin being represented by Athena.
In the initial clips from Season 2, Annabeth maintains her competitive spirit, mirroring her book character who, alongside Percy, initially prepares for a race but later becomes resolved to surpass him after a disagreement. (Previously, a photo featuring Andra Day as Athena and Annabeth was unveiled.)
First Look at Rosemarie DeWitt as Circe
Among the highly anticipated moments in the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is the unveiling of Circe’s Island, also known as C.C.’s Spa and Resort, and fans recently got their first peek at it through one of the new GIFs.
In the video, it’s Rosemarie DeWitt (who was recently announced as part of the cast for Season 2 of Percy Jackson) seen releasing what seems like powder from a shell-like container. The environment and Circe’s attire are adorned with intricate details in sea-inspired colors, featuring gold accents.
In her renowned isle, Circe provides transformation services, offering makeup sessions and on rare occasions, sorcery training for females such as Annabeth. Meanwhile, males like Percy find themselves temporarily turned into pets, specifically guinea pigs, in this unique resort-spa setup.
Grover Facing Down Scylla
In the initial Instagram post, there’s a GIF showing beloved Sesame Street character Grover confronting a tentacle-laden sea creature, which appears to be the fearsome tentacle beast known as Scylla.
It’s intriguing to note that Percy is shown battling Scylla in the Season 2 poster, yet no such fight between Grover and Scylla is described in the books. However, the figure in the recent footage undeniably appears to be Grover. While they’re not directly facing the camera, the figure does seem to have satyr horns on its head, and Aryan Simhadri is credited for this specific scene.
In my interpretation, this footage could stem from one of Percy’s dreams, a unique means for us to exchange messages due to the empathic bond established by Grover. Alternatively, it might be a fresh scene unfolding during Grover’s adventure within the narrative.
Percy Helping Annabeth Up
In the narrative of “The Sea of Monsters”, some GIFs fit seamlessly, whereas others, particularly those depicting Percy assisting Annabeth, have a slightly ambiguous connection to the storyline.
The setting appears to be on a lower level, as suggested by the backdrop and illumination. There are barrels, ropes, and other props strategically placed to enhance the scene.
It’s worth noting that this prediction is quite plausible given that a significant portion of the storyline in the second Percy Jackson book unfolds on one of three vessels: Luke’s ship, the Princess Andromeda; Clarisse’s ship, the CSS Birmingham; or Blackbeard’s ship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge.
In their secluded setting with only Percy and Annabeth present, it seems plausible to assume they’re on the last ship, given it’s the one they’ve always sailed together. Yet, there might be others on the ship in different locations, so this isn’t conclusive evidence.
An Explosion on What Seems To Be a Ship
One of the new GIFs shared on Instagram is an explosion with no characters in sight.
It seems plausible that this blast occurred aboard a vessel, considering the presence of a liferaft attached to the wall and the decorative choices made for the environment. If we’re correct in our assumption, then it’s almost certain that this video footage captures the explosion of the CSS Birmingham, as previously mentioned.
In the novel, Clarisse navigates her vessel through a treacherous passage sandwiched by Scylla and Charybdis. Despite her efforts to keep a safe distance from the former, she unintentionally sails too near it. Scylla launches an attack but is eventually subdued. Unfortunately, in this battle, the CSS Birmingham meets its end in a catastrophic explosion.
While shooting scenes for “Percy Jackson” Season 2, a section of a beach had to be shut down briefly for filming purposes. After the shutdown, there were reports of smoke emanating from that area. Some enthusiastic fans speculated that they might have been capturing the explosion of Clarisse’s ship during the temporary beach closure.
Percy on a Ship, Looking Up
One GIF featuring Percy looking up is on a ship, though one of the three is unknown.
In the videos where Percy assists Annabeth, he’s sporting the identical attire. It’s plausible, as seen in Season 1, that the characters tend to wear the same clothing for most of their adventure.
In the video, Percy seems thoroughly drenched, mirroring the aftermath of the famous siren encounter. Towards the climax of the scene, Percy bravely swam out to save Annabeth from the lure of the sirens’ enchanting melodies and successfully returned them both to the boat, shielded by a protective bubble.
Given these circumstances, it appears most fitting to slot this short video of dripping-wet Percy aboard a vessel at an appropriate point within the narrative.
Two Clips of Cloaked Figures
In the last two animated images of the post, there’s a hooded individual depicted, but it might not necessarily be the same person under the cloak.
In the daylight, the initial scene depicts an individual in a cloak ascending a hill. Beneath the hood of the cloak, a part of their face can be glimpsed. The figure is carrying a substantial staff, but due to its elaborate ornamentation and craftsmanship, it’s challenging to discern the details clearly.
An alternative interpretation could be that it might be Hermes disguised as the one who subtly prompts Percy to leave the camp, even if he doesn’t seem much like Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The second video offers a more defined view of someone cloaked, who might be similar to the figure from the first video, passing through a door during a storm while carrying a lantern. While not an exact match, it bears resemblance to the sequence at the end of Season 1 where Percy had a dream featuring Kronos, also cloaked and holding a lantern.
As a devoted fan of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, I can’t help but notice yet another captivating dream sequence unfolding, hinting at the ominous climax lurking in these beloved tales.
