On Wednesday, the Recording Academy officially invited popular TikToker-turned-pop star Addison Rae, international girl group KATSEYE, and comedian Nikki Glaser to become part of their new member class in 2025.
On Wednesday morning, the Recording Academy extended invitations to approximately 3,600 professionals from various sectors of the music industry for annual membership. In a statement, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. expressed that “membership with the Grammy’s offers an extraordinary array of prospects for today’s musicians.
Beyond simply being able to nominate and award their peers with Grammys, new Academy members will also have the opportunity to enhance their own careers by gaining practical experience, developing skills, networking with fellow musicians and industry professionals, and contributing to an organization that’s influencing the evolution of music. Moreover, they can engage in various programs, such as the Dream Initiative, which aims to make significant strides in diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization. This was highlighted in a recent announcement.
Over the past few years, The Recording Academy has emphasized its dedication towards expanding the diversity of its voting membership, a move prompted by prior criticisms. A notable instance that stirred controversy was in 2018 when the former CEO, Neil Portnow, suggested women should “step up” to achieve representation at the Grammys, which drew flak on the organization. As per the Academy’s 2024 Membership Report, they have seen a 27% rise in female voting members since 2019.
The Academy revealed that the 2025 class is made up of 49% women and 56% individuals of color. Among all those who have been invited, a staggering 60% are under forty years old. To be a part of this esteemed group, one must formally accept their invitation to become full members of the Recording Academy and be eligible to cast votes for the upcoming Grammy Awards.
Besides Addison Rae, KATSEYE, Nikki Glaser, Grupo Firme, Joey Bada$$ and Mariah The Scientist, there were several other individuals who were extended invitations to attend.
Rae, fresh from the release of her debut studio album ‘Addison’ last month, expressed great pleasure at becoming a part of the 2025 Recording Academy/Grammys new member class. She feels incredibly fortunate to be in an environment teeming with talent and grace that motivates her to create boldly and also spurs others to do the same.
KATSEYE, who recently debuted on the Billboard 200 top 10 with their album “Beautiful Chaos”, also conveyed their gratitude for being included. In a statement, they shared their excitement about standing alongside inspiring artists and being part of a community that values music, artistry, and diversity.
Glaser exclaimed upon learning about the new member class,” he stated, given that the stand-up comedian garnered virality at this year’s Grammy Awards due to her brief appearance in Benson Boone’s performance.
She playfully remarked, ‘This feels like the best gift from the Grammys since I kept half of Benson Boone’s tuxedo last year. I’m really looking forward to this role, and as a comedian, it will be refreshing to have something I can approach with genuine effort.’
