Netflix has mapped out the future of Squid Game — or at least its reality-show version of it.
The showrunner has re-upped “Squid Game: The Challenge” for its third installment, mirroring (at present) the number of seasons of the original Korean hit it’s adapting. Netflix has additionally scheduled a release date of November 4 for season two of this competition.
Titled “Squid Game: The Contest“, this show recreates the games from the original Squid Game, but with a crucial difference – no elimination contestants meet a violent end. Netflix announces that season two will introduce fresh challenges, as players strive for the grand prize of $4,560,000.
The program made its debut in November 2023 and enjoyed a successful run, yet fell short of matching the global phenomenon achieved by the scripted Squid Game. For its initial two weeks, it topped Netflix’s global rankings for English-language shows and maintained a top 10 position for five consecutive weeks. In the United States, it remained in Nielsen’s streaming top 10 list for four consecutive weeks.
Studio Lambert and The Garden, both under the umbrella of ITV Studios, are responsible for creating Squid Game: The Challenge. Executive producers from Studio Lambert, including Stephen Lambert, Tim Harcourt, Nia Yemoh, and Stephen Yemoh, collaborate with Anna Kidd. On the other hand, Nicola Brown and John Hay from The Garden also serve as executive producers.
